How long did it take for you to pee after having catheter removed

How long did it take for you to pee after having catheter removed ? Had my c section yesterday and had it removed an hour ago ..

Maybe a couple of hours?

Sorry to shout. I couldn't really feel whether I needed the loo after mine came out so I didn't bother. I ended up with a bladder infection and an indwelling catheter for a week.

I drank loads on purpose to get things going as i knew it was a condition of getting discharged, so probably an hour or two

I kept trying but couldn't manage it so had to have it put back in another 24 hours. After that it was about an hour.

On a side note in case no one tells you, gas pain is normal post c section (no one told me).

I drank loads, about 3 bottles of water, after it was removed and peed an hour or so later. I hated the maternity ward and was told I had to show them I could empty my bladder before I could go home so I was determined!

I was also really dehydrated from the sweltering heat of the ward though so that helped.

Oh gosh I remember those days. I didn't have a c section but had a catheter as had a spinal before forceps. I was desperate to go home after my first - had him 2am - but they said I had to have 3 large wees before I could do so. I managed after a couple of hours and was home by 9pm. Not sure why I was so desperate, with my second I enjoyed the three days in hospital being brought meals and lying on a bed! It took a good few weeks before it felt natural going to the toilet both times but I did have a lot of stitches with both. Don't worry (I was terrified I would never see properly again!) - you will go!

Same as some of the others - I drank loads so I could go as soon as possible. It was probably about 2 hours.

Haha I remember having to present the jugs of wee to the midwife in order to be allowed home!

I think it was a few hours but it took me a couple of weeks to get the proper bladder-full sensation back. I thought I never would! So don't worry too much if it takes a while longer to feel normal.

I think I was about 5 hours with both of mine

A few hours, drank lots of water, put tap on whilst I sat on the loo and tried to relax , wasn't too bad but a bit odd.

Gosh this has brought back some unpleasant memories! Like some other posters, I was desperate to escape the post natal oven house so drank loads and loads. It still took me a few hours to produce enough pee before they’d let me go. I hated every bit of it.

Hours - I was in the labour ward for about 6 hours after baby was born before moving to post natal and a few hours into that I was asked if I’d been - I hadn’t as I was too scared. Was told if I didnt go in the next half hour I’d get another catheter. I went right away and it wasn’t bad at all.

Slightly different, but I had to wee to go home after a laproscopy. I believe they use a catheter as part of the procedure. I drank loads of water (so had that uncomfortable full bladder feeling) but I couldn't wee more than a couple of drops. I was doing all sorts of contortions on the bathroom floor (they needed me to pee in a cardboard bowl) which considering I was just a few hours post surgery, was pretty amazing but still nothing. It got to the stage where they said if I didn't go in the next 20 mins, I'd need to be cathetered and stay overnight (it was day surgery) so I tried again, but nothing. But then, crouched over the bowl, I suddenly received a text message from a friend and that distracted me enough to let go and it all came flooding out!

I think around 12 hours from what I remember. Midwife shouted at me for not being able to go. I tried going twice but couldn’t and didn’t feel the need, despite drinking loads of water. Eventually could but was days before I felt I needed to pee.

Oh God.

I'd heard that if you didn't pee sufficiently they would put the catheter back in. I didn't want that, so I drank loads and went and sat on the toilet and "relaxed" every couple of hours. They asked if I was feeling the need to go and I lied and said yes, even though I wasn't*. I just kept on with the drinking and regular peeing and gradually it felt normal again (couple of weeks later).

*That was stupid. Don't copy.

On a bit of a tangent, but my bag burst open as nobody had bothered checking it. All my case, clothes etc got drenched in wee. The whole floor was covered. Really really not good enough.

About 30 mins. I could feel straight away when I needed to go but I did have a few accidents in the first few weeks.

I didn’t have a c section but I very nearly did so had a catheter. I drank LOADS as I know I had to do 3 wee’s before they would discharge me.

I didn’t have a section but I had a spinal for manual placenta removal- I had to present a wee in a bowl to the midwife before I could leave. She told me it wasn’t enough and so when I did the next one I topped it up with tap water. I don’t recommend this!

I’d try as soon as you can. I didn’t and ended up with a long string of catheters put in and taken out over the next few days. In my case it was after forceps, tear and an episiotomy though so I was pretty battered down there and had lots of stitches.
Just to reassure you though that, despite my fears, everything came back on over the next few weeks.

About 2-4 hours. Definitely worth 'trying' before you think you need to. I didn't feel I needed to, midwife told me to have a go, almost overfilled the bowl I'd been given, I'm sure I'd have peed the bed if I had waited any longer!

Not long afterwards. 1st attempt nothing would happen. Tried again 5 mins later, turned the tap on for running water noise and it worked! Sorry for wasting water but I knew I needed to go. Worth a try.
