39 weeks and no signs of labour yet?

Hi all

This is my second child, and I am now 39 weeks. With my first I remember having regular and strong Braxton Hicks from 37 weeks, and I was losing parts of my mucous plug in my 38th and 39th week. She had also dropped very low by now. I had her at 40+2. With this baby I feel nothing. I don't feel contractions, pain, no sign of any mucous plug, baby has not dropped... I really don't feel like I am due next week!

I am drinking Raspberry Tea, bouncing on my ball, walking etc.. I have also picked up some evening primrose oil tablets and have been taking 2 x500g tabs since last week and inserting one per night. Still don't feel any different though.

Does this mean I am going to go overdue or need to be induced with this baby? What dosage of EPO have you taken if you have used it?

Thanks!

Things can move really quickly, and women can experience the things you describe for weeks before going into labour well after the due date, so while of course you’re on hyper alert for signs it doesn’t necessarily mean you will go very overdue. I was examined at 40 weeks and my cervix was very high and closed - the student MW couldn’t find it and the MW could barely reach. 24 hours later I was in labour and my son was born at 40+3. So it’s very difficult to say for sure how things will play out in the next couple of days, let alone with a week to go until term

Thanks for your response! OK, that is reassuring. Hoping I won't need an induction. Just need to be patient. This pregnancy is so different from my first in almost every way!

Sounds like you moved fast once things got going and 40+3 is fine. Not too overdue at all. Appreciate your response! Hopefully I will see some changes over the next week or so.

It's so hard when you just want to meet them!

I tried walking, pineapple, curry, sex, bouncing on my ball and nothing would get him out and not a lot of signs either. Two sweeps couldn't be done at 39 and 40 as cervix was thick and closed, no sign whatsoever he was ready. I was booked for an induction at 41+1 but woke up on that morning going into labour and he was born without any intervention so it changed fairly quickly. This was more when I relaxed and gave up trying, resigning myself to that it felt he was never coming!

You don't have to be induced if no need to medically and also due dates are mostly just an estimate so you might not even be overdue when you think you are. Try not to put pressure on yourself, your body will do what it needs to when LO is ready. Hope it's soon for you 😊

Tbh this is almost a reminder for myself in a few weeks’ time! I am sure I will be trying to compare with previous birth and wondering whether things will go the same way

Rafaroo · 11/03/2020 14:30

Yes SparkleUK, it is really hard just waiting! I think I am just comparing my previous pregnancy and that is the issue. I was surprised I lasted another day in my last pregnancy, I had so many symptoms I was constantly thinking 'any minute now!'. This time baby is wriggling around well but body does not seem to be feeling like it's time for him to make his debut soon! But we will see. Like both you ladies have said, things can change quickly!

Wishing you the best Ivinghoebeacon. Yes, dont do what I have been doing and overthink it! Lol it only makes the pregnancy and last week or so drag on. As Sparkle mentioned, probably something will happen when I stop obsessing over it. Always the way. 🤷‍♀️

I had absolutely ZERO signs of labour before waking up on the morning of 40+1 to slight contractions and I had DD at 9:30pm that evening. I had no sweeps or interventions or anything and was convinced I would be really overdue.

The only thing I did to try and help things along was have a very relaxing bath every evening with lavender oil and some breathing exercises. Might have helped but who knows?!

Dinosauratemydaffodils · 11/03/2020 17:20

I went into labour at 38+4 and 39 weeks exactly with my two. With dc1, my first and only warning sign was when my waters broke 5 hours before the contractions started. With dc2, one minute nothing, the next contractions. Never had a braxton hicks with either.

Rafaroo · 11/03/2020 21:35

Pleased to hear you also didn't have labour symptoms but didn't go overdue Hulabalula. I am hoping I will be the same. Dinosauratemydaffodils - Wow. DC2 labour must have been a surprise! Been bouncing on my ball and had a BH tonight but disappeared very quickly again. Fingers crossed he comes next week and my body is getting ready without me knowing it! I am so ready to have him out. This pregnancy has been quite a slog..! Ha no one warns you that the second pregnancy is so soooo much harder than the first!

Its harder the second time because you're always comparing. My first birth I didnt have any clue except that I lost my music plug the night before. I dont remember having any BH or anything at all. Born at 38 weeks.

This time I've had loads of BH but no sign of baby yet and I'm 39+1 🤷‍♀️

sprite25 · 12/03/2020 11:38

I know how you feel, I'm 39 weeks in two days and I'm sooo ready for this baby to come out, apart from a few short bouts of period like pain for about 3 weeks I've had no other signs that she's getting ready to vacate. But like others have said every pregnancy is different, both my previous labour's started at night when I was asleep so don't really know what the very early stage was like, also didn't have a show or waters breaking until we'll into labour either, both were 2 weeks over due date 😫 fingers crossed we all have a speedy and healthy birth soon

ShirleyPhallus · 12/03/2020 11:44

Another who is 39 weeks and patiently waiting! I had pre-labour symptoms for about a week - period pains, cramps etc and then last few days there has been nothing!

Hurry up baby!

Rafaroo · 12/03/2020 13:21

Oh I hear you ladies. This waiting game is so hard! DTD with the husband last night hoping it would start something. I had some contractions but they disappeared. 🙄 So tonight I am going to try a warm bath with lavender and clary sage oil. If nothing else it will help me relax and release Oxytocin. So even if baby doesn't come, I should be feeling less bothered by it anyhow!

Bring on these babies!

So to anyone waiting.. My little man arrived ! He arrived last night after 3 hours of sudden labour! I was shocked it went so fast out of basically nothing. But there we go!

Wish you ladies waiting a speedy and smooth birth. Good luck!! Flowers
