Do they prescribe antibiotics as standard after an EMCS or ELCS? Or only if there are signs of infection?

I believe they now administer antibiotics through your IV prior to incision in line with RCOG guidelines as it's thought to reduce the risk of post op infection. I'm having a section tomorrow so I've probably read too much about what can go wrong as I'm a bit of a worrier.

I didn't have any antibiotics with my emcs. 2 days later I ended up on 4 via iv drip due to sepsis Confused

My experience was the same as what @Dmt80 described - they put them through the cannula after the spinal but before the op begins. Stings a bit.
