Most painful part of birth?

What was the most painful part of labour and birth for you?

OP posts:

The stitches and contractions to birth the placenta. I felt so cheated. The baby was there and yet the contractions didn't stop.

ImTakingTheEssence · 28/02/2020 21:29

Crowning the pure ring of fire I read about everything but this feeling of hot stinging killed me.

brimfullofasha · 28/02/2020 21:51

1st- when they botched my epidural and it sent shooting pains down my sciatic nerve
2nd- when he was descending down the birth canal. I felt like I was being ripped in half.

After pains were pretty brutal as well.

mumsnoangel · 29/02/2020 06:51

I had an epidural so once that was in place it didn't hurt at all. Contractions in the run up to having the epidural were agonising. Labour does not have to be horrific so long as the epidural works as it should. I know there are downsides to epidurals, but my childrens' deliveries were pain free once I'd had the epidural in each case, and the small amount of stitching afterwards was therefore pain free too as the epidural takes an hour or two to wear off. I've just posted this to give another illustration. There are different ways to give birth and my approach (to have an epidural) is quite a popular choice and though there are cases where it fails or leads to other issues like serious tears, in many cases like mine it was successful.

Weeing afterwards!

timemoretime · 29/02/2020 06:58

Losing your dignity Grin

m4rdybum · 02/03/2020 12:44

That point where the fattest bit of the baby's head feels like it's going to split you in two.

And honestly- the first wee was horrendous (I only has a label tear too). I would've happily had an epidural for that part Grin

m4rdybum · 02/03/2020 12:44

*labial not label.

m4rdybum · 02/03/2020 12:48

Also just reading about discharge times from hospital:

I had my baby at 3.07am and they wanted to discharge me by 10.30am. I held out until 2.30pm only because I was awaiting someone picking me up from the hospital.

BlueHarry · 02/03/2020 12:54

I had a fonteuse and episiotomy at my birth, and tearing (I assume that happens at crowning?), gas and air for pain relief.

The most painful for me were the contractions at the start up until I started crowning. It was like my worst period pains but lasted for hours and hours. The kind of period pains that make you want to vomit, I did vomit in fact. Though I think the feeling of lack of dignity combined with the refusal to give me any pain relief beyond gas and air made me feel vulnerable which somehow made the pain feel worse.

bellinisurge · 02/03/2020 13:03

Shitty aftercare.

allfurcoatnoknickers · 02/03/2020 14:47

I had an ELCS and the most painful part was the nurse putting the drip in my wrist. It took her 4 tries Angry and two collapsed veins and I was crying from the pain by the time she was done. And the hole in my wrist took longer to heal up, and hurt more than the incision Hmm.

OneOfManyDays · 02/03/2020 19:42

Transition - contractions on top of each other and all of a sudden felt totally out of control and trapped in this hideous scenario where I knew I had to carry on even though it was horrendous.

After birth soreness and piles were pretty fucking awful too. No one really spoke to me about how painful it is afterwards (and I didn't even have stitches!)

nearlyfinished1moreyear · 02/03/2020 19:53

The contractions were the worst part for me. Being in the car on the way to the hospital OMG! I could feel every bump/hole in the road. Also my mum and bf's constant talking throughout the full process Shock

Kordda · 02/03/2020 20:13

Stitches. My lovely midwife decided it was too much fuss to use anaesthetic so I felt every single millimetre of that needle the entire time.

SparkleUK · 02/03/2020 20:40

The first bowel movement I've just had 4 days after giving birth with 2nd degree stitches🤮

Or the ridiculous BF support (not allowing me to be discharged the next day until a feed had been observed but not giving me appropriate support to do so, forcing me onto a ward for 'help' which never came, finally being discharged at 11.30pm the day after giving birth 🤗

Sipperskipper · 02/03/2020 20:44

Contractions whilst having to sit on the bed for epidural to be inserted. DD was back to back and sort of pressing on my bladder and bum. It was absolutely awful.

Also the pain post EMCS. Couldn’t get out of bed on my own or even sit up. (Was a difficult section though as DD was partially in birth canal). Having an elective section this time round and really hoping it’s all a btu easier!

mcmen05 · 02/03/2020 20:47

The worst for me was when my first child was taken away to neo natal without seeing her. But she did get great care and is now 16 but it is something I will never forget. I had 2 more after and no pain is like will they survive x

Tulio · 02/03/2020 20:48

Definitely the stitches 😅 why are midwives so lazy with the anaesthetic!

happytobeheresparkl · 02/03/2020 20:50

Getting the had out felt like a truck I thought it would just come out not that you have to push and it's stuck there for like 45 mins ... and then realising you still have to push the after birth ffs!

stripes416 · 02/03/2020 21:17

Definitely the stitches! I genuinely didn't think labour was as bad as I thought it was going to be but the stitches both times were truly awful

feellikeanalien · 02/03/2020 21:28

When they tried to pull out my placenta manually because it wasn't coming out and then tried again with a local anaesthetic. Turned out I had placenta percreta and needed a hysterectomy!

wished · 02/03/2020 22:32

First: contractions and the recovery in the following weeks (couldn't walk).

Second: contractions. Recovery was easy for me the second time. Every experience is different though.

Hugtheduggee · 02/03/2020 22:40

Had planned sections. The most painful.bitnof the section was getting the cannula put on, and for recovery, trapped gas. Otherwise pretty painless thankfully.

FeeFee832 · 03/03/2020 01:08

46 hours in labour, syntocin drip & no pain relief!!!!! 😩😩😩😩😩😩😩

Worst experience of my whole life!!!! But had no stitches and was healed within a week! Felt amazing after a week, first few days were a bit tender!

Beautiful baby too
