Most painful part of birth?

What was the most painful part of labour and birth for you?

Every labour is different, OP. Some women have almost no pain, some claim they had an orgasm at delivery, and others suffer agony.
If you’re worried about pain, have an epidural.
My first baby was positioned O-P (back to back) so I had three hours of excruciating back pain until she thankfully rotated. It was a piece of cake after that.
My second was a faster labour and much less painful, with the baby lying O-A. However she suffered a brain haemorrhage and nearly died - the emotional pain of thinking we would lose her as the crash team worked on her, followed by her week in ITU, was worse than any physical trauma. Thankfully she survived and is now a healthy adult.

I went straight into transition, contractions not stop and my DDS head wasn't down. Some older midwife risked her neck and managed to break my waters.Went 0-10 immediately as DDS head came down,(it was bruised after).
But at least the pain stopped.I found pushing not painful. It does sting like f* when the head comes through and I got a second as her hand was on her head so the elbow coming out got me.. but this is only for a moment and you know you're nearly there.

Crowning

At least it's quick... generally. And if you're worrying about giving birth and haven't done it before, don't panic. It's often ok, painful but ok. Everyone has a different experience of it

icecreamscoops · 10/02/2020 18:36

The cramp I got in my leg as she was coming out god that was fucking horrendous! Also when she was checking me after I'd delivered!

First baby it was the breastfeeding when every feed felt like she had little pins in her mouth stabbing my nipple

Puffinhead · 10/02/2020 18:39

Crowning definitely.
After pains - so painful after 3rd baby

N0tfinished · 10/02/2020 18:43

Crowning. I honestly thought I'd split in 2

Ffsnosexallowed · 10/02/2020 18:52

The burny bit and then after pains after dd2 - no one seems to warn you about that!

PrincessHoneysuckle · 10/02/2020 18:59

The head crowning

firstimemamma · 10/02/2020 19:02

The contractions for the last 2 hours.

First 14 hours of contractions were manageable but the final 2 hours were very hard.

I didn't realise I'd got a 2nd degree tear until I was told about it and didn't have the ring of fire at all (don't get me wrong it hurt but being in the birthing pool massively took the edge off the pain).

Just had gas and air for last 2 hours. It didn't come close to taking the edge off the pain but breathing it in was something to focus on and it did make me feel quite out of it! No other pain relief.

Hardly felt a thing while being stitched up as the local anaesthetic worked a treat.

If this is your first please be warned that unfortunately the pain doesn't end once baby is born. Establishing breastfeeding is hard work for example and weeing in the early days hurts! Pouring warm water on your bits as you wee helps loads with the pain, I used a lucazade sports cap bottle for the first 2 weeks.

Good luck Smile

@FoxRedBitch the next 18 years - this cracked me up, brilliant! Grin

Horehound · 10/02/2020 19:05

The contractions. All if them. J really couldn't handle then well at all.
I seem to think the pushing was ok.

Legoandloldolls · 10/02/2020 19:07

Crowning in the last few pushes. Ouch. But that's 1-2 minutes. Bliss with a epidural btw 😁 or the first really really contractions. After a while you get used to it more

TheVanguardSix · 10/02/2020 19:08

Contractions. Then that epidural kicks in and it's all good from there.

DramaAlpaca · 10/02/2020 19:09

Crowning. It stung like hell.

buttonmoonb4tea · 10/02/2020 19:10

Crowning! Me and my sister call it the ring of fire ConfusedGrin

Tinofcurses · 10/02/2020 19:17

Having a catheter put in because ds was in a weird position and I couldn't pee - it's apparently not supposed to hurt, but it definitely did.

The rest of labour/childbirth was fine. Not super fun, but ok. Breastfeeding was worse. I was sure my nipple was going to fall right off.

IDontDrinkTea · 10/02/2020 19:21

Breastfeeding

RhymingRabbit3 · 10/02/2020 19:22

I found the stitches more uncomfortable than the actual labour, although probably not more painful but you're completely aware of everything that's going on whereas during labour I was pretty out of it, and at least it feels productive!

NotSoThinLizzy · 10/02/2020 19:27

The stitches I was huffing the gas and air more with that than contractions andbi only had 3

pastaparadise · 10/02/2020 19:31

Ds1 - induced contractions lasting 4 mins each - agony! Then a failed epidural that only worked on one side - not much improvement. Then an emcs - trying to sit up in bed afterwards was so painful.

Ds2 - elective section- much easier!

nousername95 · 10/02/2020 19:45

Postpartum period was definitely the hardest for me, not being able to stand or sit without pain and the exhaustion and the stinging wee's 😭😭

georgialondon · 10/02/2020 19:46

Afterwards 100%

LameSword · 10/02/2020 19:54

The stitches

Dyra · 10/02/2020 20:04

Labour, the next set of contractions after they turned up the drip.

Postpartum, the first poo.

Megan2018 · 10/02/2020 20:08

The internal examination and having to have a last bit of cervix pushed back behind babies head as it was preventing her from coming despite me needing and trying to push.
The pushing part was ok.

The second worst part was my failed induction - that was horrific! Fortunately I went in to spontaneous labour.
