Anyone recently given birth. How long for uterus to go down to normal ?

I gave birth 3 weeks ago but my stomach is still hard above my belly button, so my uterus is still high and large ( maybe look about 4 months pregnant) . I was signed off by the midwifes after a week so no one to ask.

Anyone else given birth recently are you back to normal yet? How long did it take? This is DC2 but I can't remember on DC1, but I'm sure it took ages, so maybe it's just my body is slow on this?

My 'D'H also says it's my diet, but I'm breastfeeding and my diet is very healthy with added treats, as I'm really hungry and don't want to diet as yet and affect establishing my supply. Also fat is not hard like your uterus.

Hi there
So I don't want to scare you this is just my experience, but I had a c section with number 3 7 weeks ago, on discharge the midwife and doc checked my wound and uterus position and both agreed it was very high but was discharged and nothing more said! After no bleeding after day 3 I felt bacn to bit al and gent great (also discharged form midwife) on day 15 I started pouring with blood! Ended bacn up on labour ward where they felt my stomach and said my uterus was at 18-20 weeks preg mark which wa sway too high! They also said due to my stomach muscles it was very hard to feel anyway turned out I had an infection and that is why uterus hadn't returned! Any way after this midwife was re assigned to me on discharge she also agreed that she couldn't tell where it was! This made me anxious as I worried why it hadn't gone down! Anyway after another bleed at 5 weeks I was scanned which showed uterus was bacn to normal size and thickness and they believe I was having a period!
Anyway my point to story was mine didn't go down due to a infection however it does say it can take 6 weeks for it to return to normal , I would book on with doc if worried however I'm sure at 3 weeks pp of there was any problems they would be other signs!
Sorry didn't want to read and run as I've put lots of posts up before and had no reply's and I know it's frustrating (I also had the infusion after birth to make my uterus contract to prevent haemorrhage die to PPH previously)

See your GP or ring the maternity ward for advice about who to see.

Think of it like a balloon - it has been inflated, and it takes time for it to deflate. Childbirth doesn't pop the balloon, it just starts a slow leak which takes about 8 weeks to go back to its pre- pregnancy size.

It can take between 6 - 8 weeks for it to fully go down. Also apparently depends on how big your baby was.. I never remember this with my first 2 but I had my 3rd 10 days ago and mine is still rather high. Midwife has said its still a little too high but also said because baby was big that it will take a little longer to go down. She's told me to keep an eye out for any clots/back ache as that can be a sign of infection. If it's something your worried about I would try and get Intouch with the midwives even though you have been signed off and ask their advice.

Your uterus immediately after birth should be below your belly button and after 3/4weeks you shouldn’t be able to feel it. Your stomach however can remain large and you can appear pregnant for months and months afterwards

Breastfeeding helps this process move quickly so I would maybe just ring your health visitor they can probably give you better advice just over the phone. If not I would go to the doctors, my stomach was definitely very squidgy straight after my LO was born.

I've name changed but no worries, just a regular changer ..baby is 5 weeks now and uterus only just gone below my belly button. I did breath in earlier and think I looked quite thin in the bathroom cabinet, but that only shows shoulder up ha ha. Anyway all fine, just taking it's time. Can still feel it in the squish stretched tummy pillow area.

Ps after birth I looked about 7 months pregnant honestly. I don't know how the women on the ward in the end opposite me said she was back in her normal jeans. Everyone's different, I have BIG babies, but I'm slim well I was before baby number 2, we wait to see on if I am slim now

And I'm breastfeeding yes
