High blood pressure after giving birth

Anyone had or have high blood pressure during labour or after giving birth? How long does it last? I had high BP during labour and it continued on and now it’s been 3 weeks it’s finally going down. I’m still on medication but hoping I can get off it soon! Don’t like taking it while breastfeeding or worrying about my health!

I did with my first - I was induced because of pre-eclampsia and then stuck in hospital for about a week afterwards. Blood pressure took a few weeks to go back to normal and I was on the medication for 6 weeks in total.

tisonlymeagain did you breastfeed? I am breastfeeding and hoping it’s okay taking the medication. The GP said it’s fine, but when I researched it seems like no research has actually been done, but the benefits outweigh the risks to mother.

Mine took nearly a year to return to normal its still borderline high but I'm not on meds anymore

I was on medication after my first baby. I think I took it for a month and then got a repeat prescription which I ended up not being able to get so by the time they checked my BP again it was back to normal without the medication.

I was BF and you have to assume they wouldn't give you the medication if it would affect the baby.

Good luck

Same here. I breastfed all the way through taking meds. Think about 2 months in total and reduced dosage gradually over that time. No problems ever since
