And how quickly did you get into active labour, were the signs there long before?

Still waiting patiently for mine Grin

2hrs 50min. From "I feel weird, do I need a poo or is something starting?" to baby out. Contractions started after ten minutes of feeling funny, and started at 4 mins apart. Water didn't break until I was about 8cm, just after I got to hospital. I think I only pushed about 4 times!

Good luck OP, come back and update when it's over! (With a baby picture please!)

Great thread to start!
I don't have a story to share yet- expecting my first too - but was reading my mum's notes from mine last night so it's interesting to see all the variation! (I was a fourth child mind)

OhHolyNightWaking · 27/10/2019 11:01

Waters broke ~11am on Friday. Started with irregular contractions around 9/10pm on Friday night.
On Saturday I was put into the drip at 1pm and baby born 4.5hrs later.

Before the drip contractions were very irregular and mild to moderate. I suspect I would have waited a lot longer of left to my own devices!!

CatsOnCatnip · 27/10/2019 11:27

Totalled 50 hours, give or take, from start to finish. Turned away from the birth centre twice, ended up being induced in the hospital on an epidural. What a relief that was!

Alyosha · 27/10/2019 11:30

I had period lile back pain for 2 days before, my waters broke 6pm, contractions started at 11pm, 3 in 10 by 1 am, got to hospital at 3am and was 9cm dilated. Baby then took another 7 hours to make his entrance! So officially my labour was 7 hours but I would say it was about 11/12 hours. Wish I had insisted on the epidural on arrival now. I was fobbed off by the midwives who said the baby would be coming soon...

annlee3817 · 28/10/2019 01:35

5hrs 17 mins from first contraction. No idea when I got established labour, assume from the off really as contractions were 2-3 mins apart straight away. Was examined two hours after they started and found to be 5cm and within 90 mins of that I was pushing

babysharky · 30/10/2019 03:14

8 hours from first contraction, in active labour for 50 minutes, was born 18 minutes after waters broke.

Dhalandchips · 30/10/2019 03:18

36 hours, but they kept giving me diamorphine so I slept for a lot of it.

PirateWeasel · 30/10/2019 03:32

Just under 19 hours from first tiny twinge to delivery.

Magpiefeather · 30/10/2019 03:47

36 hours ish from “I’m in labour aren’t I?” To baby in arms. Active labour was about 6 hours? Pushing less than 30 mins

ChrisPrattsFace · 30/10/2019 03:53

3 and a half hours. Twelve minutes of it second stage/pushing.
Very surprised for a first labour! Have been told it will be even faster if I have a second.

maggienolia · 31/10/2019 11:39

Waters broke at 7pm, contractions started straight away so headed for hospital on their advice.Got there at 8pm, DD1 arrived at 8.23pm.
She's still impatient now 15 years later.

Lyndsey9390 · 03/11/2019 07:34

3 days of back pain, no front cramps during that time.

Once the front cramps started, it was 5 hours start to finish, started instantly at 4mins part, and took 2 hours to go from 4cm to fully dilated.

With contractions worth of pushing, I asked for an epidural but was too late.

Definitely not what I was expecting as I had an induction booked for after my due date! And I've heard they can be long.

Sweetpeach3 · 03/11/2019 08:11

I started with contractions about 7am. Wasn't to bad just rode it out at home. About 2pm went the hospital and I was 7cm. He was born at 7.21pm ! Would of been earlier but he was back to back (which we knew of)
dd (number 2) had pains about the same time again think I started about half 7/8oclock as my mum just got into work an she had leave lol She was born at 9.48. 2mins after making it the hospital! Strange because you do forget the pain an it goes straight away once their out! Never used believe people who said this x

m4rdybum · 12/11/2019 13:04

Had my first contraction at 9am on the Saturday morning, was examined at hospital and deemed to be in active labour at about 11pm Sunday night, then DD born 3am on Sunday morning.

Andersonx3 · 18/11/2019 17:51

7 hours from waters to birth! Yesterday morning 2 weeks early!

elliejjtiny · 18/11/2019 17:55

Over 3 weeks in latent labour, then 4 hours 20 minutes active labour.

PlinkPlink · 18/11/2019 17:57

Um... well... small contractions for 24 hours?
Active labour was 6 hours.

2nd sweep kicked that one right off.

I thought I'd be a quiet birther... nope!! 😳

WhoKnewBeefStew · 18/11/2019 17:57

14 hrs

SuperSimpleSnogs · 18/11/2019 18:01

Induced at 39 weeks, pessary did nothing. Waters broken artificially shortly after midnight, first contraction 20 mins later, baby born little over an hour after that! It was fast and furious, with no build up and no time for pain relief other than gas and air.

Mintjulia · 18/11/2019 18:05

48 hours from the first clear twinges to ds arriving. But I was 45 and older first timers generally have slower labours.

And ds was a 50 percentile baby with a 97 percentile head - which he has grown into since thankfully Smile

brightbird · 19/11/2019 17:19

@Andersonx3 congratulations!

lilgreen · 19/11/2019 17:20

7 hrs.

xtinak · 19/11/2019 21:42

About 70 hours after my waters broke. But that's premature rupture of membranes.

firstimemamma · 19/11/2019 21:48

16 hours (waters went less than an hour from the end and pushed for less than half an hour). Managed to be at home for first 12ish hours.
