Feel like my waters broke but hospital say not...

Just wondering if anyone has had a similar experience.

Am 37 weeks 2 days and was getting ready for work this morning when i felt a gush of liquid - enough to soak the crotch and thighs of my pyjamas. I got changed and put on a pad only for the same thing to happen about 30 minutes later (similar amount).

It didn’t smell of anything and was clear and (TMI) I’d been to the loo just before and went after and my urine was quite concentrated as I hadn’t had a drink yet. It also felt exactly like how my waters went with my first birth (waters breaking was the first sign but did start contractions about 45 minutes later).

I waited a while to see if anything would start before heading into the maternity triage and they eventually (about 1pm) did a test (like a smear test) and said that it came back negative for amniotic fluid. They’ve sent me home but no more gushes of liquid and no contractions yet.

They didn’t explain what it could have been if it wasn’t my waters but I’m pretty sure it wasn’t pee. Slightly worried now in case it was my waters as I don’t want to risk infection.

Anyone had similar?

Did they not do a scan?

I am currently sat in the hospital canteen after coming in for exactly the same reason and being told exactly the same thing!
I am 40+6 with DC3 and had a similar 'gush' earlier - it didn't feel as strong a gush as when my waters broke with DC1 but it still soaked through my underwear and was clear and rather sweet-smelling.
Anyway I have just been swabbed and it is come back negative for amniotic fluid. The midwife did say she could see a lot of white discharge while collecting the swab, which she described as perfectly normal, and thinks this must have been what I felt. She didn't scan me, just took my obs and listened to baby's heartbeat before and after the swab, all of which were good.

This exact thing happened to me and I went into labohr shortly after. They checked and said it wasnt my waters and sent me home as I wasn't contracting, but over the next few hours I was contracting every 5 minutes. DS arrived the next day.

TeaIsTheCure · 02/09/2019 17:50

No, didn’t offer a scan and I don’t have one booked in till next Monday which feels a long time if it was my waters.

It felt too much to be discharge and there didn’t mention that as an alternative explanation.

This happened to me, and got tested and told it wasn't my waters. Went back the following day with contractions and when they examined me they said I had no water, so it must have gone when I felt it the previous day.

This happened to me too. I was in established labour and they kept sending me home. I lay down and actually felt a pop then water.
I went back into the hospital, they told me it wasn't my waters. I stood up to go and another gush happened. They agreed that had been my waters and still sent me home. I was back in a couple of hours later at 9cm.
My point being is although alot of care is good, sometimes they really fail to listen to the woman.
If you think your waters have gone I would push them to check again in a few hours. Good luck

Still no sign of contractions or anything. I think i’ll see what happens overnight then ring again in the morning and maybe ask for a scan for reassurance.

Driving myself mad googling - I’ve read lots of examples where people were told it wasn’t their waters and it had been.

Glad I found this thread. Had an embarrassing time myself in late pregnancy when I was sure my waters went - after sex - only to be tested and told it wasn't

WispaGoldsshouldcomeinmultipac · 04/09/2019 09:47

I had this, thought I'd lost water (after sex 😟) but I was scanned and tested and told it wasn't. Im hoping it wasn't water as I was only 27 weeks gone. I've got 10 weeks to go

icanhearapindrop · 04/09/2019 10:15

I had exactly this, and my baby was born hours later! Looking back, I am annoyed, as I had group B strep and was supposed to have IV antibiotics but they were adamant my waters hadn’t broken. Hope everything goes well for you and you’re holding your baby soon.

Keep monitoring babys movements. Maybe call your community midwife to discuss. Its horrible feeling worried and not sure what's going on.

TeaIsTheCure · 04/09/2019 21:56

Quick update - no baby yet, some contractions on and off since but nothing that lasts above a couple of hours. Been checking my temperature and all fine and movement seems normal. Maybe it was pee - the joys of pregnancy!
