How long was baby engaged for before you went into labour? Or how engaged were they when it started?

38 weeks here and midwife said at my appointment today the baby is 3/5 engaged.

I know it doesn't mean much - as people go into labour without the baby being engaged at all, and there's waddle for weeks with the baby fully engaged, but interested nonetheless!

I'm at that stage where I'm just wondering when it will be!

Was there any correlation between your baby engaging and things kicking off?

2/5th for me, waters didn’t go as a result until pushing, about three minutes before he was born!

HelC46 · 30/08/2019 18:59

Didn't engage at all, waters went with nothing happening at all, in fact full labour didn't happen at all despite a number of attempts at induction and ended up having a C-section. Hopefully that won't be the case with you as it was very drawn out.

Baby has been fully engaged for 3 weeks now (37+4). Very uncomfortable so counting down to c section at 39 weeks Grin

Ah, really does sound like it can go either way then!

sugarsprinkles hope you're not too uncomfortable!

@soundsystem thanks! Fingers crossed you don't have too much longer to wait either!

Never engaged. Labour started nevertheless. Waters went in the v early stages. Niagara falls are gentle in comparison.

Engaged from 32 weeks, arrived at 40+5 lol

StarlingsInSummer · 03/09/2019 07:23

DS engaged at 33 weeks and was born at 38 weeks.

I'm fully engaged from 32 weeks... no baby yet

TheLetterOfTheLawTheLetter · 23/09/2019 21:51

Nope, 39+6 appointment she said I couldn't have a sweep that she had randomly suggested rakish in appointment, after realising he wasn't engaged. I was very very disappointed. Went into labour at home that night! So no correlation in my case. Good luck!

Was never told that dd was engaged, just "very low". She was born at 37+4.
Currently 39 weeks with #2 and head was still noted as "free" at my 38 week check so waiting to see.

First babies usually engage a few weeks before you go into labour - this is because you have fairly strong abdominal muscles which help the baby to "stay put"once it's head drops into the pelvis. Subsequent babies often don't engage at all - for the same reason. Muscles are often slack from previous pregnancies so there isn't that tight grip pushing baby down into the pelvis. Either way, the baby does eventually drop down so it's all good.

Baby was fully engaged by about 34 weeks if I remember rightly or possibly even earlier... not born til 40+12 though I’m afraid so didn’t mean much!
