hi
just been thinking about when i gave birth
i was totally naked, i was in the bath for 12 hours then the birth pool for one though
i remember reading the leaflet about water births that said "some ladies prefer to wear a bikini top or tshirt in the pool"
so i packed my little vest top
when i was in labour though i totally did not care didnt feel in the slightest embarssed [and i can be quite shy]as soon as i went to get in the bath i stripped off
also i woundnt of cared if 10 million people where watching me !
how did you feel about this ?

it did make bf baby easier too straight after the birth

To tell you the truth I cannot remember what I was wearing for both of mine...

I assume it was a hospital gown that I was wearing during labour. But my first ended up being a CS due to HCP's total ineptitude at managing my labour and my naievity.

The second time I ended up in theatre again for forceps and I've still no idea what I was wearing.

So this just goes to prove it's the last thing on your mind.

Next time I would hope to have a HWBAC so imagine that I'll be naked!

TheQueenOfQuotes · 27/07/2007 20:15

I was ended up labouring in my bra and t-shirt top that I'd been wearing when I went in - was planning on at least taking the t-shirt off but things moved so fast I didn't have the presence of mind to think of it, I gave birth on my knees leaning on the back of the bed, so when I turned round to sit and hold him I stripped both items of clothing off.

coleyboy · 27/07/2007 20:31

I had a bikini top and bottoms on in the birthing pool as am quite shy when it comes to stripping off.

When I was transfererd to hospital I was put in a gown, and they kept trying to get me to take my bra off (not sure why!) I didn't want to take it off, but for some reason the mw kept going on about it. I eventually had to wait between the contractions to tell her in no uncertain terms that I wasn't taking it off. I remember getting quite upset about it!!

Any mw's out there who can say why they really wanted me to take it off??!

insywinsyspider · 28/07/2007 21:42

I gave birth in my bra and vest top - I stayed in my jeans and pants as long as possible, not because I was shy just had a 'I'm not a pateint' mentality, I didn't want to get into my nightie and settle in, by the time I got to the 2nd stage I just about got my trousers and pants off and couldn't be bothered with the rest, hoping for a home birth this time and not sure what I'll feel like...

FlameParakeet · 28/07/2007 21:46

Completely starkers here. First was in a pool - I wore a big shirt for most of labour, and then stripped when I got to the pool room.

DS was a homebirth - had a bath about 1am and didn't get dressed again (born 7.30am)

BF was def easier naked after DS - I just sat cuddling him and he did that breast crawl thing.

Lostmykeys · 28/07/2007 21:46

Didn't wear a stitch both times and now look back and wince , first was in a birthing pool and I hadn't even thought to take a bikinin top in or anything and second time I was so hot and pissed off with a horrid labour I didn't care as I stripped off! Poor DH & midwife. Just a thought what would have happened if their had been a fire alarm?!?! DO they have them on labour wards. (One drink too many, not hijacking thread)

twinsetandpearls · 28/07/2007 21:49

I can't remember I think I had something on.

FlameParakeet · 28/07/2007 21:51

I had to walk down the corridor to the birth pool, and they had to beg me to wrap a sheet round me (had a shirt on the top half) - I shrieked loudly that I was having a baby and if people stared they were just rude!

I did wear the sheet in the end...

Budababe · 28/07/2007 21:53

Had a boring nightshirt thingy one - junked it afterwards.

Lostmykeys · 28/07/2007 21:54

the joys of losing all sense whilst labouring...

scattyspice · 28/07/2007 21:54

LOL FP

I had 12mins from getting to hosp to delivery so just had time to wip knickers off!

DH was still in his coat LOL

crokky · 28/07/2007 21:55

Hospital gown, then nude!

gr8kids · 28/07/2007 21:58

Was in short nightdress with buttons with the idea to open buttons afterwards and feed him but, just before giving birth i ripped it off and had him put straight onto my breast which was amazing.

DrippingLizzie · 28/07/2007 22:09

I forgot to put an old, baggy t-shirt in labour bag when I went into hospital for birth of DS, so I asked DH to go to local supermarket to get a t-shirt so I didn't have to wear scratchy surgical gown. He returned 20 minutes later with a black, spangly lycra top that wouldn't have covered my bump, let alone my bum. When I (mid-contraction) asked him why he'd bought me a glittery disco top, he said he thought he'd get me "something that I could wear again".
Total and utter fuckwit.

babalon · 28/07/2007 22:10

Short nightey dd (hospital birth only taken seriously the last 20 mins of labour)

Naked but draped with dressing gown ds1 (homebirth living roon floor)

Nightey I think but I'd brought it specially and in the final stages really didn't cover much only kept it on because dd and ds1 came in to watch. (homebirth front room again)

babalon · 28/07/2007 22:12

Drippinglizzy - pmsl men hey!
But did you wear it again?

DrippingLizzie · 28/07/2007 22:13

Did I fuck...blood, broken waters and afterbirth doesn't look too great with jeans.

babalon · 28/07/2007 22:18

lol fecking men ha ha ha

agnesnitt · 28/07/2007 23:00

Tatty old t-shirt nightie for when my daughter was born. Not particularly bothered, but I was cold

Agnes

yelnats · 28/07/2007 23:06

lol at drippinglizzie!

DD1 a large button front nightie - I still wear it to bed now - bit oversized but ideal for nightfeeds with dd2. DD2 had bought another of the same but didnt have time to change so just had pj top on and lifted it up for first feed.

funnypeevesculiar · 28/07/2007 23:12

dh's dive tshirt b(he still wears it) for ds
Planned to weear same thing for dd , but ended up in t shirt and bra that I'd shoved on to get to hospital - all happened so fast I only just got my knickers off

mamijacacalys · 30/07/2007 21:52

Agree with kittenbaby.
Did not give a flying f* who was there.
Was wearing a Mothercare maternity t-shirt type nighty both times (which I subsequently used through the bf stage and which I still have. It is now a hideously shaped garment and a strange shade of grey instead of the navy blue it started out as, but I am strangely attached to it and unable to bring myself to chuck it out) .

Wilkie · 30/07/2007 21:56

I was naked throughout but I was quite surprised at the number of midwives (I went through a few...!!) who commented 'Ooooo, we have a naked one....'

Thought maybe I was being an exhibitionist but the pope could have wandered in and I wouldn't have cared less.....!

yogimum · 30/07/2007 22:15

A friend of mine has a short nightie she was going to lend me which had written on the front "Ive changed my mind". She wore it and a couple of other friends too.

agnesnitt · 30/07/2007 22:20

I got a bargain in Evans at the weekend. Short nightie in stretchy jersey. £3 in the sale. Job done. Plan to take a permanent marker to it and write "Get the damn thing out!" on it
