Anal fissure - please cheer me up!

Am a month into the nightmare of an anal fissure. It was excruciating for the first week, then I didn’t eat much for a couple days (also took stol softeners) which got my stools very loose and were then almost painless. Did about 10 days like this, eating carefully. Then I don’t know why but just had what I wanted for lunch in the pub. Had a painful bm the next day and haven’t been right since. Have tried not eating but it made me feel ill after about 36 hours. Pain is on and off, occurs with most BMs and then burns for about 5 hours afterwards. It isn’t as bad as that first week, but I don’t feel like it’s getting better either. Could someone please reassure me that I will get through this (with careful eating). Feeling pretty down. Thanks in advance.

Hi jalliej,

We're so sorry to hear how painful this is for you - we can't offer much in the way of helpful advice but definitely do not take iron tablets; they seem to make symptoms much worse in our experience.
If you'd like to post in general health you may find some other users how can offer you some support.
