How many nights in hospital for planned c section

Hi, just wondered how long you stayed in hospital after a planned c section if there were no problems with yourself or baby.

I was in 5 nights last time after an emergency, we were both on antibiotics. I cannot cope with that again, it was the worst part of pregnancy/labour/birth. Hoping to get back home ASAP!

I was home 24 hours after my emergency section as we were both well, no complications etc. Next day is pretty standard for electives in my experience.

BlackeyedPetitsPois · 10/05/2019 22:57

I had both mine on a Thursday morning and both times was out by Saturday teatime. No problems at all.

NannaNoodleman · 10/05/2019 23:08

Born 1pm on Monday, home Tuesday morning.

Bees1 · 11/05/2019 07:18

I was home within 24hrs. Good luck.

Wow, can’t believe people are sent home with 24 hours?? I’m not in the UK but was 4 nights in hospital after my scheduled, zero complications section.

IamMoana · 11/05/2019 07:24

Uk - just one. Had her at mid day and home by tea time the next day. In retrospect I'm not sure I was ready but they needed my bed. Good Luck!

They usually aim for a discharge the next day, but my hospital gives you the choice to stay longer if you feel you need it.

With me, both times there were minorish things they wanted to keep an eye on, so I stayed two nights each time rather than one.

whatswithtodaytoday · 11/05/2019 07:25

Section at 9am Wednesday morning, discharged Thursday lunchtime. Would probably have been quicker if they hadn't been so busy.

Hugtheduggee · 11/05/2019 07:27

Rystall, I'd have gone nuts after 4 nights. I was happily going out and about pottering, going out for lunch etc at 4 days. On painkillers yes, but as long as I took it easy I was certainly not 'ill' at that stage.

Shelbybear · 11/05/2019 08:11

Oh fab, I'm hoping to stay one night only but I'll assume it will be 2 nights I'm sure I can handle that!

24 hrs does sound crazy but I was still in agony when I left the hospital day 6 so I'm sure I'll be fine. I'll just be so glad to get back home!

Less than 24 hours for my EMCS. Baby born 11pm, we went home 5pm the following day! We'd had no complications and I felt like I could rest better at home.

Funnyface1 · 11/05/2019 14:54

Less than 24 hours for emcs and about 26 hours for planned cs.

AlwaysColdHands · 11/05/2019 21:33

1st one, two nights, 2nd one, just one night.
Made sure I did plenty of little walks about & kept asking for painkillers regularly.

AllTheUserNamesAreTaken · 11/05/2019 21:36

I would have been out after 2 nights but DS had a suspected chest infection so was put on antibiotics, meaning we were in for 5 nights

K0612 · 11/05/2019 21:46

Emergency section two nights, planned section one night.

curlyrebel · 11/05/2019 22:15

I got home this afternoon from a planned c-section on Thursday afternoon. I lost a lot more blood than usual but didn't need a transfusion and there were no other complications.

The hospital I had baby in isn't such a busy one so they didn't need my bed, and they also tend to make sure you're comfortable with bf even if it's not your first DC.

I would do 2 nights if you can as it will take 24 hours before you start getting mobile.

ApplestheHare · 13/05/2019 21:14

Had section last Tuesday 7th and the nurses got me up and walking 7-8 hours later and discharged home on Wednesday 8th. It was great. Definitely persevere with getting moving as long as you don't have complications. Good luck Smile

Jfw82 · 13/05/2019 21:32

I'd ask your hospital mine aimed for 24h and o was just over that CS st 9.30 Tuesday and discharged 22 Wednesday. Only paracetamol for pain relief which was ok, less keen on self injecting fragmin which I had to do for 10 days

peachgreen · 13/05/2019 21:44

Two nights, but I'd haemmoraged and had to have additional surgery to remove a large fibroid they'd discovered during the op, plus my spinal had worn off during it so they were concerned I might have trauma symptoms. Honestly I wasn't ready. I wish I'd stayed another night.

Expressedways · 13/05/2019 23:39

I stayed 3 nights (in the U.K. but private). I recovered really well, no complications at all but I don’t know how the hell anyone went home after 24 hours. Next time I’ll do 2 nights as I did feel 3 was too much and I was starting to go stir crazy!
