How many times in and out of hospital?

Just that really.

I'm 40+5 (and very impatient at this point in time; first baby). Started proper contractions on Tuesday evening (3 mins apart but with hindsight not that intense); went into hospital - 1cm(!) so got sent home.

Spent most of the night in the bath and most of Wednesday walking up and down the stairs. Started going slowly insane from lack of sleep, pain, frustration and self-loathing (a whole other thread) that contractions were now up to 10 mins apart.

Went back into hospital at about 6pm Weds for pain relief, turns out I was now 3cm(!) and "all soft", which sounded promising. Got pethidine, stayed in overnight, by early morning contractions still at 7-10mins apart. MW advises prob best to think about going back home (another MW let slip they need my bed for a booked induction), so we'll probably do that.

I'm just wondering how much to-ing and fro-ing we're likely to still have to do before baby finally arrives.

Hi I don’t have any experience but I wouldn’t have thought they’d let you go on like that for much longer. I feel for you & hope baby arrives soon. Can you not speak to Midwife’s & ask what your options are ? Tell them your tired & fed up see if they can offer anything x

Thanks so much for your reply.

I think they'd let me stay if I insisted, but it seems quite clear they would prefer logistically for me to go home (which rankles a bit), and that that doesn't seem like a risky option to them. Realistically I am planning to ask for more pain relief in return for vacating the bed!

I really feel for you, it’s not nice, the pain isn’t nice at all & to try to deal with it For days must be really difficult. I hope things get moving for you soon. Yes go back or call them and ask them to help with pain relief x

Update: didn't have to go home again!

Things really kicked off at about 9pm after I got my previous pethidine, waters broke and baby was born at 00.40! Relieved doesn't cut it - the last 50-odd hours have been hellish. Thanks again for your support x
