What to bring baby home in?

Hi all,

I'm being induced at the end of this month and I'm just wondering what baby will need to wear coming home in. This is my first baby so I am not experienced and have no idea about much!

Obviously the weather is unpredictable, so should I pack a cardigan/jacket or would he just come home in a sleepsuit with a bodysuit underneath and a blanket over the top?

I would pack all of the above and judge it by the weather. Don’t forget a hat!

They can get quite cosy in car seats. I would pack vests, sleepsuits, hat and a blanket. Take a few changes as you don't know how long you will stay after birth and babies poo a lot in first few days.

Mine wore a vest, long sleeve top and overalls, hat, cardigan and a blanket over here. This was October.

I'd also reccomend making sure you've taken yourself comfortable clothing. Something thats loose and not too tight. I packed jeans to come home I'm don't ask me what I was thinking but ended up having to shuffle out in a nightdress my boyfriend had made a mad dash to Tesco to buy 😂 not the end of the world but certainly could of been avoided

Both of mine came home wearing a vest, babygro, thin cardigan and hat with a light car seat footmuff/blanket.

Mine wore a long sleeve vest and onesie with fold over hand parts, a hat and a blanket. No jacket on in car seat, hence blanket best option.

Oops, posted too soon! It’s not recommended for children to wear coats in car seats. It prevents the straps gripping them and they can fly out in the event of an accident. Mine came home in a vest, babygrow and hat with a blanket over the top.

X2 newborn baby grows & vests
X2 0-3 baby grows & vests
X2 hats and mittens
X1 blanket

Be aware if your birth doesn't go as planned you may be in for a while. Meconium poonamis would have meant mine were through those two outfits within 4-6 hours....

Both of mine came home in vest, babygro, cardigan and a blanket.

When I had both of mine the midwives were very particular about making sure babies wouldn't get overheated in car seats. Mine were November and December babies and they recommended a vest, baby gro, cardigan and then once they were in the car seat a blanket on top. No hat indoors but put one in them once you get to the door.

For summer I think a vest and baby gro and thin blanket would be fine.

We had a great blanket called a Morck that the car seat straps go through so you can open it up on the car so they don't get too hot.
