lump in ceserean scar Anyone have any ideas!?

I had my DS 2 weeks ago by an elective section as he was breech-I feel fine and am healing well-Getting as much rest as poss considering i have a 2 yr old aswell! However I have a lump on the end of my scar which seems swollen and hard. about the size of a large pea! It isnt painful in the lump itself but is painful above it and can make walking any distance a bit painful. It has got a lot better over the last few days but I noticed when we took our children to the park today that it was nagging me! I do nothing in the mornings as my hubby is home so he does everything for my daughter,so i can take care of our son but come the afternoon I cant sit still and have to get out and about (gently! I am not someone who likes to sit around!) this is my 2nd section and I am healing better than last time - Def less pain, but i am just a bit worried about this lump. Does anyone have any experiences or advice they can give me? My HV said it sounds like bruising and possibly a haematoma-and should settle but I want some reassurance please!

I had the same thing after my first section. I think I was told it was scar tissue from the internal stitches (it was 5 years ago now so I'm a little hazy!) It didn't bother me though: it was just kind of "there". It disappeared after my second section - I suppose they cut it away? ewww!

Maybe mention it at your six week check up if it's still causing you pain. And congrats on birth.

I had a lumpy bit at the end of the incision which ached in the way that you describe. Think the aching is just the general repair etc. Think it is just scar tissue forming-anyway-my scar is now almost gone and no lumpy bit (section oct 04) doesn't sound like anything to worry about. But no harm in getting checked out for peace of mind

Thanks for your advice! Do u think i am expecting too much too soon? My Ds is only 2 and a half wks old but the side without the lump feels normal and pain free! HV hasnt been very helpful but i have another nursery nurse visiting tomorrow and will ask her advice. Just a bit worried something is wrong

I asked my m/w about this last time & she examined it.

As it wasn't painful or hot she said it was scar tissue & would go down over time (which it did)

If it had been painful and/or hot it would have indicated a possible infection that would have needed treating.

It sounds like the same thing I had on my episiotemy scar. Can it kind of wobble about?

I eventually had two courses of ABs, cos 1st course was too weak due to BF, and then went on to have Ultrasound therapy at local Physio dept to get Haematoma dispersed.

I left it till after 6 weeks to really get seen to as i thought I was still having lochia discharge but it was really bloody discharge due to infection.

So, if I was you, I'd get GP to refer you for physio on the haematoma and ABs for any infection....

Apparently one side always heals slower than the other, so my midwife said. Don't think she told me why, but she said it was 100% normal.

One side is more painful and heals slower because that's where they "pull" from when they're doing the surgery/stitches.

I had the same thing at that point. 6 weeks on and the lump is gone and both sides of the scar are equally healed.

Are you still under the midwife? If so, you might want to ask her about it, but I'm pretty sure it's normal.

it may be the "knot end" of your sub cuticular sutures, should ease as they dissolve

I had a couple of haematomas in my cs scar which felt pretty much like you describe. I went to see the nurse at the surgery and she just said to keep an eye on them in case they became painful but they didn't and went down after a bit.

My cs scar (four weks ago) has been helaing slowly and I was advised that if any lumps appeared they could indicate infection (a pocket of pus if that's not tmi) don't know whether this would be painful or not.

I did have a little lump at one end of the wound where the bead was, but this disappeared over the last week or so.

If you're in any doubt you should go to the doctor for reassurance.

THANKS TO U ALL FOR YOUR MESSAGES!! The lump is less painful as the days go by so I am feeling quite reassurred. I think TWILITE u are probably right as the side of the lump is the side the registrar stood to perform the cesarean so this does make sense. The lump isnt wobbly and feels cool to touch so I dont think its an infection. I will keep an eye on it and speak to my HV next week if i am still worried-Thanks again to u all!! Where would I be without all you mums netters!!!
