C-section: how long did it take to recover?

I had a c-section yesterday morning which had a drain put in. I was allowed up this morning, the catheter and drain are now out and I have had a shower. I am struggling with the pain though. Can anyone share their experiences of how long it took to recover from their c-section? I am struggling to get baby out of her cot in hospital, to get myself sitting up in bed etc and also I’m not sleeping well so am queasy with tiredness.

Thank you. The pain in my arm has stopped. I now have discomfort along the bottom of my ribs. I am thinking it’s pribably trapped wind as I also have pain in my back and am definitely quite gassy. I do have a lot of anxiety though. I feel irrationally scared that my symptoms are signs of serious things like blood clots.

Did they give you blood thinning injections to take after you left hospital? I had 10 days worth to do to prevent clots. While I absolutely hated doing them it put my mind at ease. If you're ever unsure go see your GP or give your midwife team a call

Hi smurfybubbles I have a 10 day course of clexane injections to do. Hopefully they would prevent any clots being able to form. I don’t know really why I’m so anxious.

Ah that's good, definitely use them all up as tempting as it is to skip them! Anxiety is normal after you've had a baby and major surgery! If anything feels out of the ordinary do t be afraid to get it checked out. For now just rest as much as you can.

I felt massively better after c-section due to bad PGP and was up and around from the next day...

This was my experience too. From being largely housebound before my section, to out and about shopping by day 4. I was religious at taking painkillers on schedule (even through the night), but don't remember being in any pain, aside from when getting up /down, at any stage. But I had become very used to pain in pregnancy, so maybe it just didn't register in comparison.

Back to sex in just over a week, bleeding was light apart from day 1, and stopped by about a week.

I never noticed any pain afterwards.Hmm
I had emergency caesarean after failed attempt at forceps.
