Has anybody had their baby at Colchester General?

If so, when did you have your baby and how was it? I had my dd in a Manchester hospital and as it was over new year and lasted 4 days, it was bloody awful (although the antenatal care was wonderful and I think a four day labour would have been awful anywhere!)

I am due to have a cs on 19th/22nd October and just wondered if anyone had any experiences of Colchester General and post natal care with midwives etc.

Hi there - I had a c/s at Colchester 4 years ago. There was one midwife who was AWFUL, and whom I should really have complained about, but everyone else was lovely, very helpful with b/f-ing etc. They were a bit slow on bringing painkillers after the op and I kept having to remind them - but I think that's probably the case everywhere. I stayed for 3 nights (it was supposed to be a stay of 4 days for a section but if you have your baby before midday they counted that as the first day - though that may have changed in the last 4 years). I'm having another section there in September.

Hi Tinkjon -thanks for that - yes they were slow in giving pain relief when I had my DD. Good news about b/fing help though.

Anyway best of luck for September - let us know how you get on. I am due to have mine on either 19th or 22nd October.

E x

I had DD2 at Colchester General.

Birth wise was fantastic, post birth was shocking.

I had no support to BF, the MW's way of helping was to ram babies mouth onto breast repeatedly for nearly 45 mins and then saying "try again later"

I discharged myself early because I hated the whole experience.

Am due Nov 26th with this one, and seriously considering a home birth

Hi Jinxed - good luck with your second one - if you like, I can let you know how I get on with mine. Just remember things can change drastically even over a shift change let alone a year or more so it might be alright when you have your next baby. However, I think a home birth sounds lovely - good luck whatever you choose x

THanks, that would be good. As I say, the actual birth was fine, it was the post-natal care that was shocking, but any positive storied may make me feel better!

DD2 will be 2 in October so will be just over 2yrs!

Hi E, I had my dd nearly 3 years ago at CGH. I was with one of the community teams who were fantastic both during del and post natal, my cousinhas had 2 dd's there as well one last dec she also had good experiences. We both work within CGH too. Ask you midwife cause they do offer you a guided tour of del suite might be different with cs though but it wouldn't hurt to ask. Hope all goes well
