As the title says really, how did labour start? Is it literally all of a sudden out of the blue or are there actually signs in the days or hours before indicating it? Was it during the day or middle of the night?

This is my first baby so just unsure of what to expect, obviously everyone is different but it's nice to hear people's stories Smile

Hi Hun congratulations. Yes sometimes you can get what they call? Brixton hicks. Now this with me having nine children, I know. And they are where your tummy will tighten. Don't worry this can go on for a week or more,

39+4 days had an internal exam and was not dilated at all. Lost my plug later that day.

39+5 days woke up at 5:30am with sudden intense contractions that lasted 40 seconds each and were 3 minutes apart from the get-go. However, it took 3 hospital visits and the next 18 hours before I was 5cm dilated (during which my contractions didn't let up but continued to get even closer together!!), 4 hours later was barely at 7cm, so they broke my waters and then less than an hour later my daughter arrived!

So pretty much nothing then woke up and it was all-go!!

Hi Hun.congratulations, you may get tightening of the tummy , pains may start in the back. And in the lower tummy.dont worry you will know, trust me. You may loose a discharge when your labour starts. But do not worry.

40+4 ... woke up for a wee (obvs) at 6am and had some mild cramping... kind of like really mild period pain. Didn't think much of it, but OH noticed it was coming and going and for a laugh started timing them. They were less than 3 mins apart but not painful. Around 8am I took a bath to see if it would stop them, but it didnt and they got more intense but still totally managable. By 9:30 it was hard to be distracted during them... hospital didn't think I'd need to come in that day as it hadn't been long and could still talk through them. 10am I had to use TENS. 10:30am OH took me to hospital as I was finding them v intense (car journey is NOT fun FYI). I was 5cm dialted and had DS in the birthing pool 3 hours later :-)
