Stomach bug or labour?

Bumpandus · 13/06/2018 13:32

Last night I started getting regular contractions or BH every3 minutes that we’re innocent my back and lower abdomen and also felt in my hips. Quite intense and probably lasted about 45 seconds each.

I went to the toilet and had watery diarrhoea. Came back to bed more cramping then I was sick. Fell asleep then repeated this about 4 times in the night.

I’m 30 weeks pregnant and the diarrhoea has literally just started to settle a bit now and I have managed to drink some water and eat a banana. I’m now getting pressure down below which is also quite intense but comes and goes and some niggles in my back.

Could this be the start of labour OR is this a stomach bug causing all of this? Any experiences would be appreciated. Due to see my M/W tomorrow.

Hope all s ok. Think you probably in self preservation mode. Hoping it's not labour.
Sounds like you in D and G

Bumpandus · 13/06/2018 21:37

They have advised me not to go up because of the diarrhoea incase I pass it on to other mums. I have been advised to see if it gets any worse and then go to labour ward.

Upset stomachs are so common in labour. Can't believe they've told someone who has these symptoms and who was in hospital with potential early labour to not go in. Have you told them about the mucus?

Bumpandus · 13/06/2018 21:52

Yeah I was on the phone for a while saying so what about his symptom does that not matter etc etc and she reckons it is all caused by the diarrhoea. They know my daughter was early and that I was in The hospital I needn’t to deliver in last week in threatened preterm labour. Nothing has got worse I’m about the same with back pain every 15 mins. They don’t want me up there incase I pass something on to other mums and babies. So maybe now it makes sense why I hesitated to call in the first place. Next phone call will be to labour and delivery hopefully things will calm down on their own...

Since the phone call I’ve had more pink mucus come away in the toilet.. I’m so scared now

Can't believe that! With your history and presentation, if you were at my Trust you'd be invited straight in. They'd put you in a side room with en suite because of the diarrhoea. I'd call back if you have any further tightenings. Not assessing a woman with threatened pre term labour because she has diarrhoea is crazy.

humphreysabout · 13/06/2018 21:56

Phone them back OP. You need to be seen. Or just go in. Don't drive yourself.

swimmerlab · 13/06/2018 22:01

You need to be examined. Please phone L&D.

Tonkerbea · 13/06/2018 22:02

Perhaps try 111 instead?

Hope you're ok and you have support in RL.

3boys3dogshelp · 13/06/2018 22:08

I don’t want to scare you OP but it’s been hours now of regular tightenings, back pain, loss of mucus plug etc. You have a history of previous premature labour and threatened premature labour. At what point will you go to hospital??
Worst case scenario for your daughter if you go in and aren’t in labour - an unnecessary disturbed nights sleep. Worst case scenario for your baby if you stay at home is being born at home at 30 weeks.
Phone back and tell them you need to be seen. Infection control is their problem, not yours at this stage.

shelentei · 13/06/2018 22:10

That was exactly how my labour started. Get help.

Bumpandus · 13/06/2018 22:10

They said it’s the diarrhoea that’s been causing everything. Told to try to sleep.

Brenna24 · 13/06/2018 22:14

My plug looked like that at 35 weeks. I was holding my daughter 15 hours later.

humphreysabout · 13/06/2018 22:16

They can't possibly know what's happening to your cervix without even setting eyes on you!

humphreysabout · 13/06/2018 22:17

And yes, the diarrhoea may have irritated your uterus, but that doesn't mean you aren't going into premature labour.

GuntyMcGee · 13/06/2018 22:20

I get what they're saying to an extent - if it's a stomach bug they won't want you anywhere near vulnerable newborns but with your history they'd a duty of care to see you if you're in pain and concerned.

How can they be certain that the diarrhoea is causing the tightenings or that the tightenings are cause of the loose stools?

Have you been vomiting or is it only diarrhoea? Been near anyone who has been vomiting or been unwell? Have you eaten something unusual or somewhere different we're you could have contracted food poisoning?

The diarrhoea could be a red herring. Without that, you've been having regular tightenings (and have been for hours) with pinkish mucousy loss and rectal pressure. Pink vaginal loss wouldn't be from diarrhoea.
And you are pre term, regularly tightening with a previous history of preterm birth.

I'm another one voting for call back and tell them you want to be checked out.

Cheekypenguin · 13/06/2018 22:21

Please go and get examined Op , this exactly how my labours started . You need to get checked out

KatnissMellark · 13/06/2018 22:25

Definitely get checked OP. Lunacy not to.

Doyoumind · 13/06/2018 22:47

I had a preterm labour that was very similar to this. They were telling me it was a stomach upset right up until my waters went and I started having the urge to push.

Rubberduckies · 14/06/2018 06:56

What happened last night OP? Did it settle or did you go in?

knockknockknock · 14/06/2018 07:01

Google early labour and check the symptoms against this. You've almost got a full house. Hope you've got proper help now and everything is ok.

Stomach bug or labour?
Devilishpyjamas · 14/06/2018 07:07

They can’t tell whether it was caused by sickness/diarrhoea without seeing you.

I hope you have been seen

Counter27 · 14/06/2018 07:15

Sounds very similar to my preterm labour so definitely go in. I also had threatened preterm labour two weeks before it all kicked off.

Counter27 · 14/06/2018 07:15

Meant to say regardless of what they are saying just turn up. They should not be turning you away with that history and symptoms.

Curlywurlywurly · 14/06/2018 07:31

Hope everything is ok this morning OP?
