Hi everyone,

After yet ANOTHER bleed (and another one since being in here) my doc has said I should have an amnio to check for lung maturity and if it is ok they will go ahead with an induction. She has just left the room now and is going to come back with a time for the amnio to be done but it will be at some point today. .
I do still have the option of waiting one more week when I will be almost 37 weeks before the induction but I will probably have to stay in hospital until then. The bleeds are becomming more and more frequent (due to placenta abruption) so the longer we leave it the riskier a crash c-section becomes. I am in a bit of a dilema as to whether I should wait - but at the moment I am thinking I really wouldn't mind the last 18 weeks of strict bedrest and constant hospital admissions to be over. Am being reassured that most babies born at this stage do really well with very few problems. I know the best place for it is still inside me if everything were ok - but there is a risk that if the placenta pulls away completely then it would be a disaster. Just dont want to make a decision which could result in a poorly baby for a while. . My DH has bought in the laptop so hopefully will be able to keep you updated on any decisions we make - and possibly a live labour thread from the USA!

Just to back up the others, have had an induction (for a 38 weeker, pre-eclampsia so not even 'ripe' (I ahte that term but then I am a Peach LOL) and it was no more painful than ds2 and a lot less than ds3, both of whom were natural starts.

Best wishes and sending vines XX

usagal · 19/05/2007 20:29

Thanks for that Peach! I am not ripe either - only 36 weeks - so tbh don't know if I want to be in labour or not. Am sure the baqby will be fine though. They have just set up the little cot in the room for it to go in when it's born! Got one of those standard blue and pink stripey baby hats in there that all the babies seem to wear on those american birth programmes!

PeachyChocolateEClair · 19/05/2007 20:33

Must be exciting with the cot though?

36 weeks isnn't that early these days, try and hold on to that- ds1 would have been a lot better off born at 35 weeks that 38 truth be told.

Have you heard any news from them?

Skyler · 19/05/2007 20:53

I was induced by m/w breaking my waters as I was 2-3cm dilated. It didn't speed anything up but when they got me on the drip, which I was dreading, it only took two hours until dd2 was born. In hindsight I wish they had got me on the drip sooner. What I am trying to say is that the drip might not be as bad as you think. You are in good hands. Good Luck.

Skyler · 19/05/2007 20:54

Oh and because it was so fast I didn't have time for (or want any) pain relief.
Sending you positive labour vibes.

usagal · 19/05/2007 20:58

hello!
Doc just came in. He said that as they were unable to get any results about lung maturity from the amnio they are not willing to risk delivery unless bleeding gets worse / baby starts to become distressed. Will let me go to 37 weeks which I think is a week today. (But my doc said she would def not let me go longer than Thurs when I have a planned induction). He did not say anything about repeating the amnio - but he is coming back in a sec to check the fluid levels so will ask him then. Really really hope that they will just induce on Thurs if nothing happened by then. Am allowed off the monitors! Yippeee! Monitoring now 3x a day and when I say I can feel an increase in contractions or bleed. Baby looks fine.

Have you had the meds for the lungs? They give that here (Germany) quite early.Think it is steroids they use to mature the lungs? A friend had this and her baby was delivered at 23 weeks and was only on the heart lung maschine a day before she was breathing on her own. Incredible really.

Good to hear that you are doing well. You seem to be in good hands.

sohappyicouldcry · 19/05/2007 23:09

Good luck & fingers crossed......

Klaw · 19/05/2007 23:31

I'm glad to hear that you are getting to wait a little longer!

Will be looking out for you with baited breath!

HUGS!!!!!

Good Luck

Hi everyone! Just woken up and sitting up in bed with my breakfast - waiting for dh and kids to arrive probably with a nice Starbucks hot chocolate for me. . Can't wait to see them this morning!
I had a really good nights sleep - but have woken up with my stomach itching all over and bright red and hot to touch. Probably just where my skin is stretching though.
I have had the steroid injections at 24 weeks when I had a significant bleed and they thought they may need to deliver the baby. As long as the baby is not showing signs of distress of course I am happy for me to stay pregnant. The docs are positive the lungs are mature - but don't want to risk it just yet.
Had some more bleeding this morning but not loads - I doubt they will do anything about it. Am still off the monitor but will be popped on for a short time after my breakfast just to make sure it is ok. I will post again soon when I have any more news to report!

Ooh sympathies with the itching- sounds a pita

sohappyicouldcry · 20/05/2007 17:27

37 weeks is actually classed as term, so you're so close !! Keep your chin up, you'll have your baby with you soon enough xx

lulumama · 20/05/2007 19:44

cold flannel on your bump should help !

usagal · 20/05/2007 20:07

Thanks for the cold flannel tip Lula! Works a treat! The doc has seen it and I am sure it is called "pops" but may have mis-heard her! She said it is a pregnacy rash similar to hives and is usually cured by delivery. Is a pain to deal with but does not effect the baby.
The plan is still to keep me on observation till Thurs. For the past 3 days I have had 2-3 hours of very strong contractions in the afternoon, which did cause me to dilate the day before yesterday. - Wonder if it happens again today?

PUPPS!!

usagal · 20/05/2007 20:29

. Thought I must have mis-heard her! Anyway I don't think it is anything serious - just uncomfortable. x

Klaw · 21/05/2007 11:13

just checking in on you usagal! Glad to hear you sounding upbeat! Sorry about the PUPPS tho.. I had itching in my last week which i thought was down to trying a new shower gel (as a form of pampering) which I have never used since! Maybe I should do a test to find out if it was the gel or a mild dose of PUPPS.... It was so frustrating, I feel for you!

Keep your chin up! HUGS

usagal · 21/05/2007 20:08

Just a quick update - but there really is very little to report. - Still here and still having infrequent contractions. When I am monitored twice a day for an hour a time it usually shows about five contractions - but tbh not feeling them loads. It depends on what position I am in.
Feeling a bit down as dh has loads of appointments booked up today - stuff he wanted to do before the baby was born. He did offer to cancel them - but as nothing is happening here and he will have his phone on I told him to get stuff sorted. Just means that I will only see him for an hour today - so feeling a bit sorry for myself.
Have not seen doc today yet but am certainthey will just tell me to hang on till Thurs.

Please try to eat well, eliminate and get as much sleep as you can, prowl the corridors! Keep walking as much as you can, and if you feel you want to then get some privacy for nipple stimulation! But most of all listen to your body!

Stay strong!

macmama73 · 21/05/2007 21:18

At least you have internet in the hospital, that is fab.

Hope you are not too bored today. How are your DCs coping at home?
