(oh and had drip as well)
(about 26 hours of proper labour)

with dd:
pessary at 10am, contractions at 6.00pm but not much, by 8pm hard contractions every 5 minutes, midnight down to delivery suite 2am she was born
(6 hrs of proper labour)

ArtichokeTagine · 17/05/2007 16:06

I was induced a week early due to pre-eclampsia.

Tuesday 7am - gel put in
Tuesday 11am - more gel
started to get prosting pains (which at the time I thought were bad).
Weds 6am - cervix finally in right position for them to break my waters.
Strong contractions
Weds noon - put on drip to speed up contractions
In agony with contractions every 2mins
Thurs 00.32 DD born

So a long time for me. 40 hours.

maisemor · 17/05/2007 16:10

My sister and her friend got induced at precisely the same time.

My sister never made it back home again and gave birth within 4 hours.

Her friend went home, went out for dinner, went to bed, and started giving birth 48 hours later.

JARM · 17/05/2007 16:10

cupcakesgalore · 17/05/2007 16:13

CarGirl · 17/05/2007 16:14

dd4 pessary at 12pm, then 6pm born at 11pm

bigcar · 17/05/2007 16:21

Monday evening gel
Tuesday morning nothing happened so waters were broken, contractions started very quickly.
Took absolutely ages to dilate, dd3 never dropped so emergency cs at 1pm.
I should have asked for a section first, apparently the consultant figured it would end that way. Thanks for telling me!

suedonim · 17/05/2007 16:22

With ds2, prostaglandin and ARM at 6pm. In labour 6.01pm, delivered ds at 10.10pm.

Dd1, prostaglandin at 8am, two lunches inc puddings at 1am, indigestion at 2pm, in labour 2.30pm, delivered at 10.45pm.

MissTea4Me · 17/05/2007 16:40

I was induced by drip five days after my waters broke, took about 8 hours for dd to arrive with the help of the plunger. Managed on gas and air, might have gone for something stronger if I'd known you have to ask early . There's an anecdotal assertion that induced contractions are sorer than natural but I just have the one dd so don't have any basis for comparison. Good luck!

Twinmummyx2 · 17/05/2007 16:40

Induction 1: pessary at 5.45 am, first contraction at 6am, babay born 11.40am

Induction 2: ARM and drip at 9am, baby born at 4.28pm

Induction 3: controlled ARM and drip at 8.30am, baby born at 10.28pm.

All of mine got worse, longer and more painful.

Docs agreed i should never be induced again, so had 2 c-sections for the last 2 pregnancies.

GColdtimer · 17/05/2007 16:46

Gel stuff at 5PM

Waters broken at Noon the next day: contractions increased but still not enough to do anything useful

Drip at 2PM (Labour officially recorded as started at 4PM)

9PM - told it could be hours, only 7cm dilated

10PM - started pushing

10.17PM - DD born!

Basically, took ages to get going, but once it did, 5hours first stage, 17mins second stage!

Good luck!

lilymolly · 17/05/2007 17:05

vaginal tablet at 11pm
water broke naturally @ midnigth
contractions started
3cm dilated 3am
epidural 4am
fully dilated 7am
stopped contracting 8am

Quite quick and pain free after epidural!!
Good luck

lilymolly · 17/05/2007 17:07

sheepgomeep · 17/05/2007 17:13

ds first pessary 6 am, second at 12, then had contractions which got worse and worse, then about 5 I had the pushing urge, only to be told I was being silly! I went from 1cm dilated to 10 cm in about half an hour. ds born at 6.43 pm the same day.

Hated the whole process but unfortunately I am booked in for another induction next wednesday.

satarted off myself with dd

Mossie · 17/05/2007 17:14

1st pessary half seven - mild contractions
2nd pessary middle of the night (not sure what time, about two or three?) - harder contractions
Waters broken ten thirty next day and put on drip - contractions got more regular and stronger
G&A at about mid day
Diamorphine about two o'clock
Another shot about six because by god it bloody hurt - but it did sweet fa, wish I'd not had it tbh, just made me more drowsy and didn't slow the pain!
Ds born eight thirty that evening.

Nessie21 · 17/05/2007 17:23

went in for induction had pssary inserted at 12 no pain had seccond one inserted the next day as still not dialated at all third one put in on third day and no luck at all no movement no pain, by that point i had the max i could have was put on a horemone drip had gas and air to start then morphine inj then epidural fell asleep for 6 hours and was woken by mid wife as complications ended up having an emergency c section. at 5am in the morning it all took about 5 1/2 days and i was 10 days overdue

NoviceKnitter · 17/05/2007 18:01

Only just seen this thread. Interested to know if it tends to take longer if you're induced early than if you're induced for being overdue?

3sEnough · 17/05/2007 18:03

Induction because of waters breaking early (due to back to back presentation as it turned out!) Gel applied at 10am, 6cm dilated by 4pm, ready to push at 7.30pm - ds eventually dragged out with forceps at 8.39pm - so almost 11 hours start to finish - quick as things go.

Othersideofthechannel · 17/05/2007 18:12

First baby induced at 37.5 weeks due to preeclampsia. Oxytocin gel at 8am, intravenous oxytocin a couple of hours later. DS born at 6.55pm.

LandSmum · 17/05/2007 19:13

DD1 - prostin gel at 6.45 pains started about 9.30ish - taken to labour ward at around 12ish i think waters broken for me at around 1ish due to dip in baby's heart beat delivered at 5pm - only gas and air and diamorphine.

DD2 - prostin tablet at 3.30pm pain started more or less right away though mild initially. 2 paracetamol and a bath at 8.30 by the time I came out of the bath I couldn't sit down with the pain. 10.45pm put on monitor, examined 45 mins later as I felt the need to push - fully dilated, thrown in wheelchair to go to labour ward - waters broke in the lift and delivered 17 mins after arriving in the delivery suite.

Would I allow myself to be induced again - YES. Though I was pretty anxious in the lead up to induction with DD2.

GOOD LUCK and look forward to reading your birth story!!
