When did the head engage with your DC2 and how long after did you give birth?

I'm 34 weeks with DC 2 and apparently the baby is already 3/5 engaged. The midwife even checked on an ultrasound to make sure.

I engaged fairly early with DC1 (as is quite standard I believe) and they were born on their due date.

The midwife was saying it's less common for subsequent children to be engaged for weeks before birth. Slightly concerned as I'm really not ready for this one to arrive quite yet!

I'm a bit of a planner so just trying to get a rough idea of if people found with their second that it didn't make any difference if the head engaged early or if there are lots of stories of second babies arriving imminently after the head engaged.

I only laboured with DC1 for about 5 hours so there is every chance this one will arrive quickly too...

DC2 was head down from 27 weeks and starting engaging around 36 weeks, I went to 40+4

DC1 I engaged around the same time and labour started at 39+ 2. First baby 4 day labour, DC2 5 hour labour.

Can't remember re DC2 but DC3 who was born a fortnight ago was engaged for about a month and came on time.

Cheers both, there's hope yet then!

Doesn't help that I've been getting lots of backache and Braxton Hicks the last few days as well....

It's at least prompted me to try and get stuff sorted, like somewhere for it to sleep.

I'm 39 weeks now and baby's head has been 4/5ths engaged for about a month now. They also said to me that it was unusual second time round for head to engage so early but no sign of baby yet xx

Mine was engaged at 36 weeks, free at 38 weeks, and today at brim at 39+4! Second babies drift in and out of your pelvis because it's already been stretched by your first.

Engaged at 34 weeks, free again at 39 weeks! Born at 40+2

My first he was engaged 3/5ths from about 34 weeks. I went to 42!

He was very small though; apparently that can be a cause.

This one is bigger and I've been similarly engaged since then but no signs at 39+1.
