What were you wearing (if anything) when giving birth?

I didn't want to be stark naked last time, made me feel quite exposed/vulnerable and I ended up giving birth in an old dressing gown which I had to hold up around me.
Am hoping for a water birth but in case not does anyone have any suggestions of what to wear which gives a bit of privacy but won't get in the way?
Are eg old, big T shirts any good?

when i was actually giving birth i wore a very very baggy nighty, from matalan i think, so it was by no means expensive.

lol, spent my labour in just a white cami type top which as soon as i went into the birthing pool went see-through anyway

i started off in a baggy nightie with dd but ended up starkers in the birthing pool! I just didn't care at that point. Just wanted it over and done with!

started off in a big stripey top w ds and can't remember how i started w dd though she's not quite 3 and he's nearly 14. Ended up with nothing on with both though - both in the water. and i had my best friend's husband in taking photos first time round. he was too embarrassed so sat in a corner and read The Singing Detective. And my mum sat in another corner furiously trying to finish the going home shawl she was knitting. Never did finish it.

Thanks for the smiles in this thread ladies. I have been wondering what to take as my 'birthing outfit' and now realise that it really doesn't matter one little eeny weeny bit!

Before going to delivery suite put on new baggy nighty bought especially for the occassion. unfortunately due to a reaction to the antibiotics i was on, projectile vomitted all over it so ended up in hospital regulation gowns - one front, one back - highly attractive but by then didn't care. lost all inibitions and any sense of style during childbirth.

DD1 - a newly purchased pink DKNY top (only just managed to get my pants and jeans off) I had a Primark nightie in my bag but never opened it at all (so much for the carfully packed labour bag)

DD2 - nothing was a homebirth remember being in downstairs toilet pulling the sink off the wall MW arrived and I ran upstairs threw my clothes off dived on the bed, legs akimbo shouting quick examine me before the next one. We had the windows open despite it being January.
