hey folks - i am 40wks + 1. had a mw appt yesterday - 2cms dilated, cervix thinned and all looked good. took a membrane sweep. woke at 5am with what i thought was cramps from trapped wind (??) and then had show after 7am. pains started and got all excited. they tailed off mid morning when i sat down to watch tele and been on / off all day. just back in from long walk with dp. i really dont know what to make of this. i am getting pains - now strong enough to make me stop and breathe deeply but not so bad that i cant cope. they dont seem to be getting any stronger tho' and whilst they are about every 7 mins - not coming any quicker. is this just a practice run that has been going on a few hrs.??

You would have thought so lulu Yes! Maybe it's not general across France. We are fairly rural, don't know if that makes a difference but they are VERY old fashioned here. Only just refreshing their idea's on monthly internals, when I had dd 2 yrs ago it was every mth from 12 weeks, this time it has been from 6mths, so getting better. Labour, active?? NO, they like you on a bed, attatched to the monitor, gowned up, even dh had to wear a gown, hat and shoe covers, legs in stirups for delivery, nothing to eat or drink whilst in Labour room and have to stay in labour room for 2hrs after birth. They try to keep you in for 4/5 days after, even with 2nd or more children. This is alot to do with the fact that there is no community team as such in the rural areas so once you are out, thats it you don't see anyone until your 6 week check. I'm sure in the cities it's not like this though. It sounds crap but I have to say the care here is fantastic, the hospitals are lovely, mostly private rooms, and the food is worth staying for. Yes, It's a bit medical and my MW thinks some of it is over the top.

Klaw, I was induced with dd, I hear what you are saying but I had a fab experience with it. Each to there own etc...... I'll wait and see what happens. Hoping I won't resort to it, this baby is going to break the trend and arrive early.

I had heard that France has the best medical system in Europe.... generally. When a VBACer was trying to get her HBAC in Spain it was suggested that she try the French system, can't remember the details but the consensus was France would be a trillian times better than Spain!

MrsJaffa, print out loads of Michel Odent stuff and say you want a birth like he belives in, he is the coolest man alive in some aspects!!!
