hey folks - i am 40wks + 1. had a mw appt yesterday - 2cms dilated, cervix thinned and all looked good. took a membrane sweep. woke at 5am with what i thought was cramps from trapped wind (??) and then had show after 7am. pains started and got all excited. they tailed off mid morning when i sat down to watch tele and been on / off all day. just back in from long walk with dp. i really dont know what to make of this. i am getting pains - now strong enough to make me stop and breathe deeply but not so bad that i cant cope. they dont seem to be getting any stronger tho' and whilst they are about every 7 mins - not coming any quicker. is this just a practice run that has been going on a few hrs.??

oooooh.........am hoping this silence is a good , birthy silence....

chilledmama · 20/04/2007 20:25

I certainly hope things have gone smoothly! A nice peaceful birth with everybody chilled out...makes for a happy baby!

Mrsjaffabiffa · 20/04/2007 20:59

I spied weeonion on the due april thread earlier today. Think last night was a practice run. That was earlier though so who knows by now.

chilledmama · 20/04/2007 21:00

MrsJaffa- How did she sound???

Mrsjaffabiffa · 20/04/2007 21:06

It was a very quick post, at 9am, Just said congrats to another april lady and I'm still here She hasn't posted again today so fingers crossed for her.

chilledmama · 20/04/2007 21:17

MrsJaffa- I'm sorry, are you an Apr lady??

Mrsjaffabiffa · 20/04/2007 21:21

Thats Ok, why are you sorry? No I'm a fed up still 4 weeks to go and nosy at the april thread, May lady.

Mrsjaffabiffa · 20/04/2007 21:22

The "I'm still here was what weeonion wrote, just incase we have our wires crossed. doh

lulumama · 20/04/2007 21:27

ok..well , sounds like baby won;t be far off !thanks for the update x

chilledmama · 20/04/2007 21:37

Sorry Jaffa for confusion. I thought you were still waiting...whats your due date?

Mrsjaffabiffa · 20/04/2007 21:47

18th May, chilledmamma. No.3 for me so used to the waiting.

chilledmama · 20/04/2007 21:54

I'm nosy so looked at your profile page...who's the bambino in the pics?

Klaw · 20/04/2007 23:17

18th May! Mrs Jaffa, that was my dd's scan edd. Totaly wrong of course, she arrived 2nd June, having gone past her lmp edd too!

Don't get me started on the tale of having to refuse numerous induction dates cos they wouldn't believe me about conception, after all they were there, weren't they?

and they wanted to induce a VBAC

I hope you aren't kept waiting too long for No. 3

chilledmama · 20/04/2007 23:35

Klaw- It is amazing how they will argue black is white about dates when you tell them you are 100% sure about conception date!! A definate benefit of only seing DH on certain weekends because of work! DS came 38 +2 but NHS insist 39+2...of course doesn't matter now but if I had gone past their LMP then would have had to fight not to be taken in and induced!

Mrsjaffabiffa · 21/04/2007 09:43

Chilledmama and Klaw, sorry I dissapeared last night. I'm an hour ahead here and my back was acheing so much I couldn't stay up any longer last night. The pic's in my profile page are of one of our May babies born at 33 ish weeks. The lovely May lady hasn't done her profile yet so couldn't pop his pic's on for us, so she e-mailed them to me and I put them on mine.
Not one of mine I'm afraid, mine are late, always. ds (4.5 now)10 days arrived on his own, dd (20 mths now)11 days, induced! I have to say though that the induction here in France for dd was fantastic, I'd do it again tommorow if they'd let me. Can't compare it with the UK though. ds and dd pregnancys were identicle but this one has been sooooooooooooo different, put me off any more for sure! Hoping as this one has been so different it may continue the trend and not be late.

What about you ladies? are you expecting or just love the Labour threads?

lulumama · 21/04/2007 09:47

i'm just nosy ! and practicing for RL doulaing !

Mrsjaffabiffa · 21/04/2007 09:52

Your right lulu, we should be keeping the air waves clear for real news from weeonion. gosh, crashing her thread what am I like. Wish you were in France lulu, I'd have you as my doula. Fancy a holiday through May. lol

off to check the april thread for progress and then in to the garden to build a shed.

lulumama · 21/04/2007 09:55

thanks , but am on call in england in may !! there must be doulas in france !!

hope weeonion is doing ok, either resting or birthing!!

Mrsjaffabiffa · 21/04/2007 10:02

You are probably right, there probably are doulas in France, French ones. My French is seriously rubbish.

Still nothing on the April thread.....
I'm hoping the same as you lulu for weeonion....

lulumama · 21/04/2007 10:08

have a look at childbirth international site, they have doulas all over the world, they might havea bilingual one !!

Klaw · 21/04/2007 17:44

Where abouts are you MrsJaffa? I know a lady in France who might be able to give you moral support if you lived close enough...

She has already offered to put loads of us VBACers up if we come and be on Doula duty for her when she gives birth again!!! So she understands the need for support in childbirth.

Anyhow I would consider volunteering for you BUT I don't think May is doable for me...

Mrsjaffabiffa · 21/04/2007 19:32

Hi Klaw, I'll be fine, I have a great dh who's done it twice before, IF I was having a homebirth in the UK then I would seriously love a doula around, I think it would be lovely to have an experienced chilled person at my side. I am having a hospital birth, probably an induction if my last are to go by and Mum and Dad live with us here so I have loads of help for the dc's. Hospital policy here is only 1 person in Labour room too so thats a bit of a bummer.

Just to answer your question though, I'm in SW France, The Charante, dept 16. Beautiful

Klaw · 21/04/2007 20:21

You don't have to be induced unless there's valid medical reason, and being overdue (which is actually 42+wks) is not a reason by itself.

Think seriously before considering it, why not let baby come when it's cooked?

Sorry MrsJaffa, induction is one of my bug-bears so I always ask women to give it more thought...

Obviously, it is entirely your choice!

It's lovely that your folks are with you to enjoy their DG and it sounds beautiful where you live. Probably much warmer than east coast of Scotland?

lulumama · 21/04/2007 20:23

interesting, because michel odent, who pioneered water birth, and making birth less interventionist and more personal is French ! and he trains doulas, IIRC , through paramana doula..so thought France might have absorbed some more of his birthing ethos?!

chilledmama · 21/04/2007 20:29

No hospital can get past the practicalities of shift patterns
