hey folks - i am 40wks + 1. had a mw appt yesterday - 2cms dilated, cervix thinned and all looked good. took a membrane sweep. woke at 5am with what i thought was cramps from trapped wind (??) and then had show after 7am. pains started and got all excited. they tailed off mid morning when i sat down to watch tele and been on / off all day. just back in from long walk with dp. i really dont know what to make of this. i am getting pains - now strong enough to make me stop and breathe deeply but not so bad that i cant cope. they dont seem to be getting any stronger tho' and whilst they are about every 7 mins - not coming any quicker. is this just a practice run that has been going on a few hrs.??

It could be the start of things, it might happen very slowly - 'fraid all you can do is sit tight and wait and see...

but if you are worried, call the delivery suite and ask for their advice.

Fingers crossed for you! Good luck, hope it all goes well

lulumama · 19/04/2007 21:36

sounds like getting ready for kick off.....how long they lasting?

Wotzsaname · 19/04/2007 21:37

you are in good hands already, I'll be watching.

weeonion · 19/04/2007 21:38

lula - they are only about a minute long. 5 good big breaths in and out sees each one through......

lulumama · 19/04/2007 21:39

minute long is good!!

do you need to stop and concentrate through them?

home or hospital birth?

plibble · 19/04/2007 21:40

How exciting! Try to rest, don't get too excited and eat something if you can. Good luck!

weeonion · 19/04/2007 21:41

yep - i have to stop and focus on breathing but not so bad that i cant get through.

i am destined for hospital - only 5 mins down teh road so i wanna be here til the last possible opportunity!

Is this your frst weeonion?

I had a very similar thing with my first. It was very slow. It was boxing day, my hind waters went at 6am, contractions didn't start til midday, they were only about 7 mins apart through until about 2am the next morning. I had gone into hospital because of the waters (didn't know it was hind at the time and 12hrs is all they'll let you stay out after water break). ds was finally born at 11.45am on the 27th. So it was slow. 29hrs from when I first thought things were happening, he was 10 days late too.

If it is for real it will not stop! Go to bed, try to get some rest if you can.

liath · 19/04/2007 21:42

Do you have a TENs?

Really hope this is it, it sounds promising esp after a sweep - thinking of you!

lulumama · 19/04/2007 21:42

give labour ward a call, and let them know ...

keep moving, eat and drink if you need to ! have a bath.....and try to rest and or even sleep, if it is the start of things, it will kick off and wake you up , and if it isn;t, you will get a good sleep !

Spidermama · 19/04/2007 21:43

weeonion go with the flow.

If I were you I'd do anything but concentrate on contractions. I liked cooking and cleaning in between contractions as a way of distracting myself and pretending nothing was happening.

It's frustrating I know but remember these contractions you are having aren't for nothing. They are doing some work which is all going towards the effort of bringing your baby into your arms.

Go into yourself and all the very best. x

Mrsjaffabiffa · 19/04/2007 21:44

How rude of me, I'm sooooooo sorry, I forgot to say, GOOD LUCK oh and breathe.

weeonion · 19/04/2007 21:45

thanks folks and grand advice- off to get the tens ready and give the hospital a call. i am more excited than anything - bring it on!

will post later if there is any real developments!

Weeonion- It sounds like early labour...just relax (if you can). If at all possible go to bed and try to get some sleep. I was advised to go to bed with some paracetamol and a hotwater bottle...didn't last long as contrasctions were more painful lying down. When I spoke to MW she told me to have a nice relaxing bath.

liath · 19/04/2007 21:50

GOOD LUCK !!

lulumama · 19/04/2007 21:51

yay !! keep us posted x

foxybrown · 19/04/2007 21:53

good luck - am very excited for you xx

madamez · 19/04/2007 21:54

Sounds like you're ready to roll. Good luck.

mamijacacalys · 19/04/2007 21:55

Another vote for the bath.

(Went from about 6cm dilated to fully in teh space of having a 15min bath when having DD).

Good luck and hope all goes well. Sounds as if you're doing fine so far. xx

Klaw · 19/04/2007 22:44

Hello Weeonion! How's it going now? Hope you are able to enjoy a nice bath and then get your TENS on.

If you can get some sleep that would be great but if not, keep rocking those hips gently or do whatever your body seems to want to do.

This is so exciting!!!

Wotzsaname · 20/04/2007 13:40
