What pain relief did you go for and recommend?

What pain relief did you opt for, would you recommend it and opt again?

Not long to go until labour and I’m a bit nervous. I have put in labour plan I’m open to anything.

Labour went fast with baby no.2 and only got G&A and it’s scared me for this time.

I had gas and air - it was amazing! I was all set to ask for an epidural when I went into hospital after labouring all day but once they gave it to me I could deal with the pain.

I got to 9cm with it when unfortunately it all went tits up and I needed a spinal for episiotomy and forceps, which then led to a retained placenta and lots and lots of blood. DS fine once he was out.

Just RTFT! Good luck! How exciting!

MusicToMyEars800 · 03/10/2017 20:39

2 Epidurals, Diamorphine and Gas and air with my first.

Just Gas and Air with my 2nd.

Cracklesfire · 03/10/2017 20:45

Tens then the pool. I thought about G&A but as soon as I went into labour i vomited everything I'd eaten that day and struggled to keep water down. I was worried it would make me feel sicker.

4cm, fully effaced but cervix back? Getting sent to labour ward hopefully 😰

First baby had everything going gas air pethaine epidural and i felt awful but did it because alot of it is the fear of the unknown and it is painful which youve probably never felt pain like it. However my second i only had a little bit of gas and air and just kept calm etc helped that by no 2 you know what to expect and it was great feeling the urge to push and it really wasnt bad at all. It made me wish id of done my 1st baby without it all however its really not something you can plan until your experiencing it as everyone is different and its how you cope with it at the time

MotherofKitties · 03/10/2017 20:51

I had nothing with my DD as there was no time; she was very nearly born in the car. If I have a second I would definitely take at least some paracetamol...! Smile

I found the pain easier to deal with once I was face down/ass up in a beanbag in the midwifery suite. Good luck!

Lisavickers · 03/10/2017 21:21

Good luck @asongforthelovers this was me last night. Very nearly had a c section but when Dr checked I went from 6 to 10cm in under a minute phew things can move fast after a slowish start xxx

DonkeyPunch88 · 03/10/2017 22:05

I just used a bit of G&A with all mine but I’m very lucky that my labours are all relatively short and complication free. If I had laboured longer then I’d definitely be asking for something stronger!!

lasketchup · 03/10/2017 22:34

Everything! All of it on offer! It was great.

asongforthelovers · 04/10/2017 02:19

Baby boy finally arrived on gas and air. Phew, glad that’s over 🙈

@asongforthelovers well done and huge congratulations xxx

Bananmanfan · 04/10/2017 07:37

Having had everything going with dc1, I decided to have nothing with dcs 2 & 3 & walk around. Birthing pool if you can get one is better than anything. I founds drugs slowed everything down and made me feel totally out of control of the situation.

ladybirdsaredotty · 04/10/2017 11:35

Aah congratulations OP! Well done Flowers

Csd17 · 10/10/2017 01:44

I requested an epidural but by the time I reached the delivery suite and my Mw checked me, she said there would be no time for an epi as I had to start pushing.

Prior to this, I had a pethidine injection administered which did sweet F.A for the pain but made me feel a bit spacey.

25 minutes before the baby arrived I was given gas and air and thaaaaaat my friend is the good stuff 👌👌👌👌👌

Csd17 · 10/10/2017 01:47

Ohhh just read that OP had their baby. Congratulations 💕

FindTheLightSwitchDarren · 10/10/2017 10:48

I had codeine (tablets) after being given a pessary at start of induction, then had gas & air, then epidural, then full spinal block and morphene at the same time (because I needed assisted delivery, DD was in a very strange position and I'd pulled out my epidural)!

My favourites were the codeine and the morphene (unsurprisingly)! Closely followed by gas & air.

I did not like the epidural or full spinal block, but my God did they do the trick! Would only opt for either again if essential though as being unable to move is just horrible. Didn't like catheter much either.

FindTheLightSwitchDarren · 10/10/2017 10:49

Woops! Must rtft! Congratulations op! Maybe my comment will be helpful for someone else.

SophieGiroux · 11/10/2017 23:32

To the PP who said Augmentin was a great painkiller, it's actually an antibiotic so would not have helped with any pain.

Mandraki · 12/10/2017 16:57

I had an epidural pretty much as soon as I got to hospital. It was lovely because I couldn’t feel anything. But when it came time to pushy contractions slowed right down and I ended up having ventouse and forceps and a PPH. Not saying it was directly because of epi but apparently that is one of the things that can happen. So in terms of pain relief it was great, I felt nothing, but the delivery was not great.

Mandraki · 12/10/2017 16:57

Ah just seen that you’ve had your baby! Congrats mama Flowers
