Chances of transverse baby turning at 38+2 weeks?

asongforthelovers · 24/09/2017 20:59

Has anyone’s baby moved from transverse into correct position at 38+2 weeks? Found out today after visit to MU that baby is lying transverse.

I am being kept in due to other issues and ultrasound tomorrow. I have anaesthetist coming round to see me soon. Midwives and doctor has mentioned caesarean?

I’m pretty nervous at the thought of caesarean, is there a chance baby will move on their own? Is it more painful than a vaginal birth?

Is it your first?

asongforthelovers · 24/09/2017 21:12

Sorry, it’s 3rd baby.

They could at the last minute, it's persuading the hospital to leave it as late in the day before deciding what to do!

asongforthelovers · 24/09/2017 21:30

Will hopefully find out more tomorrow, pretty nervous at the thought of section but terrified thinking if I’m left to see if baby moves and waters go or go into labour resulting in emergency.

Mine was breach and turned right at the end. My midwife suggested swimming. X

My first turned at 39 weeks. The hospital was convinced I would have a c section.

asongforthelovers · 24/09/2017 21:44

Don’t think I want to have procedure to turn baby, my friend got it last week and said it was sore and failed. I am sure I read it’s not advised if you have anterior placenta? Will need to ask.

Consultant done a quick scan this morning to confirm baby’s position, it was on small portable scanner so going for ultrasound in the morning to check everything.

Did use get sent home or kept in? Midwife said I could be kept in incase I go into labour.

I will be glad when this is over, been a bit of a nuisance pregnancy 😳

Oh my @HughLauriesStubbleI really hope baby isn’t as rebellious, haha.

My DD was transverse and didn't turn so had to have a section at 39 weeks. Tried to turn her at 37 weeks but she was having none of it.

I tried everything as I wanted a home birth but alas nothing worked and she's still, at 2, as stubborn as a goat

asongforthelovers · 24/09/2017 21:57

Ha @ILoveKermit, this little person has been rather stubborn throughout this pregnancy.

The pain I am in just now is horrible 😥

CodLiverOil556 · 24/09/2017 22:00

@asongforthelovers I know that pain, when she stretched it hurt like a bugger. The section wasn't a breeze either...they had to literally scoop her out and she wasn't coming easily

creamcheeseandlox · 24/09/2017 22:04

My second turned from head down to transverse literally in a few hours meaning I had to have a emergency section so anything is possible. He's just turned 6 and hasn't stopped moving since. 🙄

asongforthelovers · 24/09/2017 22:10

Oh my god, you have given me the fear 🤣

I am experiencing very bad pain right ribs and back, very sore to breathe in, laugh, cough, sneeze etc. I am having to get checked for blood clot but I think it’s the way baby is lying as his heads on the side of the pain.

Did you find the section painful? The thought of being awake is scaring me the most. I will no doubt be getting worked up and he will move, think just not knowing what’s happening just now is stressing me out.

asongforthelovers · 24/09/2017 22:13

Haha @creamcheeseandlox that made me giggle. Little roasters!!

My first was spontaneous labour, quick and not too bad. 2nd decided to be back to back, induced, huge and born in the sac.

And 3rd has been a roaster throughout my pregnancy 🤣

DD was transverse, I was admitted at 37+5 (so be grateful you've got beyond that!) in case I went into labour, had a elcs at 39+1. Before I was admitted, we tried ECV (where she was turned by a consultant) - it was initially successful, but she turned back that evening. When I was in hospital, they recorded her position every day, and she was doing loops.

Initially I was told that if she went head down, I could go home, but it became clear that she was spending some of the time head down (and was recorded doing so) but then moving again. I was then told that she'd have to stay head down for 48 hours for me to be allowed home, which didn't happen.

An elective section is better than an emergency one from all I've heard (I've only tried the first!) and my recovery was OK, though not pain free. I went home 24 hours after delivery.

BaskingTrout · 24/09/2017 22:41

DS was an unstable lie but mostly transverse, I was admitted onto the ante natal ward at 38 weeks, had a section at 39+1. He was flopping around all over the place. They didn't bother trying to turn him because it was pretty clear he would just turn back. The CS was fine, although he did get a bit stuck because he was still moving even when they were trying to get him out. He's 13mo now and hasn't stopped moving.

His older sister was an emcs for other reasons but looking back, I'm pretty sure she was transverse fir a lot of the time too. I dont know for sure because I didn't have any late scans but I would be willing to bet she was. The midwives always found it tricky to find her heartbeat, it was never where they expected, she was hard for them to feel and the pattern of movements I felt was the same as with DS. She was head down at birth though, do I think she must have turned on her own

asongforthelovers · 24/09/2017 22:47

I keep thinking of being awake and getting epidural or spinal, think that’s what freaking me the most.

OP posts:
Theycalledmethewildrose · 24/09/2017 23:05

But if you have a normal delivery and have an epidural, you will be awake too.
Is this your first birth? I worked myself up so much before my first baby too. But honestly you just get on and do whatever the hospital staff tell you to do. The hospital will be full of women having babies. You will just copy the midwives and they take control in a way I never expected. They are also very chatty and kind but no definitrly take charge and the worry becomes theirs if you like. It will be okay, it really will.

@Theycalledmethewildrose - this is baby no3. I never got epidural with previous labours.

Think I’m just a bit all over the place. Will hopefully get more information tomorrow 🙂

Tbh the thought of having a spinal and getting rid of the labour pain was welcoming to me. The spinal hardly hurt compared to the contractions and the wave of relief was amazing. My recovery was on par. Out from hospital within 24 hrs and driving after 4 weeks. Was harder just because my dd was only just 2yrs so having a newborn, toddler and csec recovery all at once was a bit overwhelming but it all soon fell into place.

asongforthelovers · 25/09/2017 06:53

That sounds reassuring @creamcheeseandlox, do you suffer any pain after having it?

Hopefully ultrasound is sooner rather than later today and can get a bit more information on what’s going to happen.

OP posts:
FitzChivarly · 25/09/2017 07:03

I was admitted at 36+5 after a growth scan as my ds was transverse.
However I went into spontaneous labour the next morning (I think this was because I was so anxious but who knows) and he turned whilst I was having contractions.
Like you I was told I might need c section etc but once the ten or so people in the delivery suite confirmed he was head down, they left me to get on with it. He was born 36+6 and was very active throughout the whole labour.
Good luck op, just think it won't be long until you have that little one in your arms.

asongforthelovers · 25/09/2017 07:12

Aw that sounds great @FitzChivarly. I’m not too sure why the huge fear of c-section, if I could get put to sleep I think I would feel a bit better.

Will let use know what’s happening later, just want to have baby here now.
