Well, I had a sweep yesterday morning and although (see other thread) MW said not to get excited re next 48 hours, I decided to have a curry last night. (I'd always planned to have one that Sunday night and well, I just rather fancied it!)

I may have overdone it.

Before I went to bed I had a show (Yay!) and then I had a really uncomfortable night with wild flatulence and indigestion.

This morning I had to go to the loo very suddenly.

And then again... and again... all day. Basically, my hot madras curry seems to have set off 24 hours of diah..can't spell it... the runs.

My last labour started with a good clearout, but acccompanied by periody cramping and only for about half an hour before the contractions proper kicked in. BUT was induced so this may not have been normal.

Anyone else had the runs as sign of imminent labour? How did it work for you?

Better go and drink some more water. Don't want to be too dehydrated....

I did have a good 'clear out' at the beginning of my labour but I was also having contractions at that time too. I went to the loo three or four times. It sounds as though yours may be more curry related! Sorry. But I have heard that it can also work the other way and that having the runs can start labour so you never know...
Good luck and keep us updated

I seem to remember having the runs before going into labour with DD2. You may be in luck, my dear.

BonyM · 26/03/2007 21:21

I had a curry the evening I went into labour with dd1 - about 1.5hrs after eating it I was stuck on the loo for half an hour and the contractions started shortly afterwards. 6hrs later dd1 appeared!

Good luck!

I was the same as bristols i had a good clear out, when having contractions

cazzybabs · 27/03/2007 11:35

I had the runs with dd1. Didn't with dd2 (cue lots or embarrising poo needing to be scoped out of the birthing pool).

jdd0709 · 27/03/2007 13:27

This is good! I had the opposite problem and was v constipated during labour which is v v v v v bad and painful - get it all out! There is enough going on around there without extra bodily functions getting in the way - good luck!

thehairybabysmum · 27/03/2007 13:42

i had the runs for a few days before my waters broke...i was drinking gallons of milk to help heartburn at the time so i put it down to that but then when waters went i did wonder.

UPDATE!!!

Well who cares if it was curry/sweep whatever, my baby is here!

After one last bout of the runs on Monday night, I felt first contraction at 4am on Tuesday.

By 5.30am I had a 9lb 1oz baby boy! Wow - speedy exit! Too fast for the midwives who arrived to deliver placenta and stitch me up.

Thank god for lovely doula who caught the baby! She was a really calming influence as I was about to get really panicky knowing that he was coming so quickly!

Anyway, he's just darling and his big brother (aged 2) thinks he's brilliant!
