I had a scan yesterday and baby showing to be small, my 2 boys were big baby's even at this stage, so just wanted to know weather the same happened to you and you still had a 8lb+ baby? Thanks!

me me me!

My DD was thought to be small all through my pregnancy AND they thought she had kidney problems.

was 8lb 4oz and perfectly healthy

CarGirl · 20/03/2007 12:35

was told mine was just average not big etc etc the whole way thru she was 10lb6oz......

MakemineaGandT · 20/03/2007 17:52

Yep! Was told DS1 would be small (and I had to have growth scans as they were concerned), and even in labour the midwives kept going on about how it was a small baby. He was 8lbs 9oz!!

hunkermunker · 20/03/2007 17:53

Yes, DS2 had several growth scans where they fretted about his weight and was 8lb 1oz at 40+4. My bump was measuring four weeks small too.

BizzyDint · 20/03/2007 17:54

mine was small at scans, then she was born 8 days overdue at 8lb 14oz.

Blandmum · 20/03/2007 17:56

They kept scanning me towards the end of my pg because they thought that ds was too small.

He was a whopping 9 2, two weeks early!

lizziemun · 20/03/2007 17:58

not small as such but the smaller end of average about 7lb, dd was 9lb 4oz when born at 39 weeks.

I am hoping this one is not any bigger.

wurlywurly · 20/03/2007 17:58

when i was having ds2 i was told all the way thru my pregnancy that he "wasnt gonna be as big as ds1" who was 9lb 2oz. anyway had scan at 34 weeks and he was approx 7lb then. He was born at 39 weeks (by planned section) 9lb 4oz.

BabyMadwithBump · 20/03/2007 18:18

Thanks ladies!
I was starting to worry, with DS1 I was told at 38 weeks that he was on the small side 5/6lb at best, even tho scan shown him to be big at 20 weeks but only 10 days later to be born at 8lb 4oz! so I can stop worrying now!

my 1st ds was small all the way through they said he arrived at 35 wks and was a whopping 9lb 4oz went on to have another 5 even though i said i wouldnt do it again lol

NotanOtter · 20/03/2007 20:12

my daughter had loads of small for dates scans up to the last week - they estimated 6 lbs ..............................8 lbs 8 !!!!

3andnomore · 20/03/2007 20:19

Scans are not very reliable to show the size of a BAby, etc...! So, I wouldn't worry to much!
It could also just be that you are week less along then you thought, maybe!

jdd0709 · 20/03/2007 22:45

My ds was a bit below all the averages at 20 week scan, they commented on it and said keep and eye on it, he came out 8 lb 3. I think this is because he is short and chunky wheras a lot of what they look at seems to focus on length (the head circ was the only thing he was "normal" for at the 20 week). Now at 2 he is perfectly healthy but a little shortie like me!

lou9879 · 20/03/2007 23:30

My DS2 was small for dates, I had growth scans towards the end of pregnancy, and baby was born weighing 8lb 4oz at term plus 11.

MelbourneMum · 21/03/2007 01:56

my ds1 was average at scans and I was told at 39 weeks he would be 'lucky to make 7 pounds' and he was 9 1/2 !!

bubblebell1 · 21/03/2007 09:16

both my ds' were said to be small at 20 and 36 week scans. ds1 9lb 4 ds2 10lb 1

xx

scorpio1 · 21/03/2007 11:11

me too!

consultant worried me at 35 weeks by saying i must have a scan immediately, and whisked me down the hall, because he thought that my baby was far too small and something about restricted blood flow...

got there and sonographer said he was a fine big boy already, nothing wrong.

4 weeks later, out came my 8lb 1oz boy, just fine! (8lb feels like quite an acheivement for me,im a bit small!)

ArtichokeTagine · 21/03/2007 11:13

DD was below average at 20 week scan. When I went into labour I was told baby was not big - at most 7lbs. 32 hours later my 9lb 4oz baby girl arrived. I always knew she would be big but nobody listened.

LucyJu · 21/03/2007 11:23

Was constantly being told dd1 would be "massive" - at least 10lbs. She weighed 8lb 2 oz.

DD2 was expected to be "tiny" - the m/w went on about it so much, I was getting quite worried. Below 25th percentile on 22 week scan. Consultant predicted 6lbs max (day before she was born). Weighed 9lb 5oz.

I'll never take any predictions of baby size seriously agin.

Hillary · 21/03/2007 11:24

I was told my dd2 was small but she came out huge and she was a week early!

Fimbo · 21/03/2007 11:27

I was told with both of mine, that they were likely to be around the 5/6lbs mark. Dd weighed 8lbs exactly and ds was 9lbs 6oz!

Weegle · 22/03/2007 09:38

I think scans are ridiculously inaccurate for size. At 22 weeks all of DS measurements were only slightly above average except femur length which was long. At 37 weeks I was told to expect a big baby of about 9lbs. DS came out weighing in at a whopping 12lb 12oz. To say me and H were shocked is a slight understatement.

prettybird · 22/03/2007 09:46

Only had a 12 week can, so no later predictions of size from the scan. However, I did get comments from the midwives about the baby going to be small, as I had a very neat bump. He was 8lb 15oz - born bang on time!

Doulaklaw · 22/03/2007 12:33

I have read so many stories of ladies stressed by sizing and dating scans that I'm inclined to think that these things are more trouble than they're worth.

Personally, I will decline them when pg again, sticking to the anomaly (sp) scan only. I had so much stress when my VBAC lady went to 42+1wks scan edd. She was 40+6 going by LMP and that is much more realistic!
