Doulas - help needed in South West London

Help! I know nothing about doulas, and am enquiring on behalf of a friend who is thinking about having a doula - she's due early May at St George's and I wondered if anyone knew a lovely doula who would be able to help her through it? Is it going to be too late to book one?

Has anyone got positive doula stories I can pass on to her to encourage her? I didn't have one for the birth of either of mine, so I can't really help, but I'm sure that mumsnetters can!!

thanks in advance........

Have a look at this website

I found my doula through it. She is based in Twickenham though so might not be suitable for your friend.

Great - thanks - I'll have a look as well. That's brilliant. Was your experience with a doula a good one?

Maslady is a London-based doula on here

Iota · 03/03/2007 15:33

sorry MarsLady - also posting as Marsentio or something

Iota · 03/03/2007 15:36

here's one that she delivered recently

castlesintheair · 03/03/2007 15:36

Yes my exeperience was very good but I only had her post-natally, although she does births as well. She was lovely - I didn't have to ask her to do anything: she just got on with everything and was so kind and thoughtful and she has 4 DCs of her own, one of whom was only 4 months at the time. Can recommend her if you are interested!!

Thanks so much for this ladies - it would be great if you could recommend this lady to me, and then I can pass her name on to my friend and see how it works out.

Hi Beccadillo, sorry I didn't MN over the w/e. The Doula I used is called Debra Flynn. I don't have her number to hand but her details are on the doula website. She's based in Twickenham. Let me know if you can't find her and I'll try and dig out her number.

hertsnessex · 05/03/2007 11:59

i know of debra, here is her site www.debrathedoula.com/

mrsmalumbas · 05/03/2007 12:08

Try this

www.findadoula.com/find.php

There are quite a few listed including Mars

mrsmalumbas · 05/03/2007 12:09

i recommend she interview a few, with her partner there as well as he has to be comfortable with the person too.
we have taken on claire mclean (she has her own website and details are on the doula.org website) who seems fantastic. she works all over London.

izzzie · 05/03/2007 12:44

sory, clair macvean, not claire mclean!
