Anyone been induced and not used any pain relief?

I'm being induced with DS on Friday because he's overdue. I really didn't want to be as I was induced with DD and was hoping to go naturally this time but doesn't look like it's going to happen.

With DD, I ended up having the drip but didn't have an epidural, just gas and air and one dose of pethidine.

This time there's no option for G&A or pethidine, it's going to be epidural or nothing. I've got a tens machine (loved it in early labour last time) and I can go in the water for pain relief but can't give birth in the pool.

So just wondering if anybody else has done it without pain relief? Particularly any second inductions?

Well done OP, you've made the right choice for you and baby. Flowers

Good luck tea! How exciting!

Better to go for the epidural now when you can than wait until later when you really, really need it and it's too late.

Thanks for updating OP! Good Luck Flowers

Good luck OP. I'm being induced on Sunday.

Thank you for the messages, DS arrived yesterday evening. Unfortunately the epidural failed so I basically ended up having the drip with no pain relief. Wouldn't recommend it but we're all ok now!

Wow congrats! Cake

Congratulations! Sorry the epidural failed and hope you and DS are doing well.

GruffaloPants · 07/01/2017 09:17

Lovely, congratulations.

Congratulations, OP - and so sorry about the epidural. That's the experience I'd reported upthread and it wasn't much fun. That said, take comfort from the idea that you managed the most painful sort of birth and came out the other side with your beautiful DS. Best wishes to you all.

I was induced with a pessary and didn't have time for any pain relief! I was on the ward for most of it and by the time they wheeled me into the delivery room, she was out within 10 minutes!

FreshHorizons · 08/01/2017 22:22

Congratulations!

I was induced as I was 10 days overdue.

They gave me cocodamol on the Induction ward as I progressed much quicker than they expected. I was 6/7cm at that point when they got to on delivery ward.
They offered me the gas and air which I tried but I had 3 sucks of it and had to give it back as it made me feel awful. Like spaced out and sick.
I had pethadine towards the end but tbh it didn't do anything but make me sleepy. I wouldn't recommend it. Other than that. I had nothing and gave birth to a 8lbs 9oz baby boy. I did have to be cut. I weigh 8 stone myself so how I gave birth to a big baby I have no idea lol. I didn't intend to not use pain relief but I just didn't ask for more

Watching as currently pregnant with second.....

Waters went early with DS and they saw fit to induce me. Not sure what with but was in drip form.

Managed with no pain relief but could have been doing with something to take the edge off. But unfortunately no gas and air or pethadine here. Prebooked epidural or nothing....:( Or c-section.

It is manageable if try to move around and get in the zone with breathing techniques. I was almost fully dialated before I begged my husband to sort out an epidural! Haha but too late and nothing pre booked. (Apparently if you have a pain relief free labour that's a sign you are almost there - when your almost giving up!)

I do remember the last 30 mins before pushing was the hardest and sort of put myself somewhere else..Trying not to be in my own body!

Epidural sounds great for 2nd baby but I think we have to pay for it here!
