I haven't had many BH at all this pg (39+1) except for one night at 37 weeks when we thought it was kicking off. Last night at 7.30pm the pains came out of nowhere, no creeping in, just WHAM! They weren't regular though lasting about 40 seconds but varying from 5-7 minutes apart. No relief regardless of position. Had enough by 10.30 and went to bed. They didn't stop until 5am, which is awfully tiring the next day. M/w visited today and confirmed head is 2/5 (?fully engaged) and ready to go.
The contractions with my other two were almost always starting from the top and waving down across my bump, these gripped me under my bump seriously around my back (back pain was the worst actually) and felt like pulling up inside me. Is this likely to be pre-labour, or JUST the BH, is it like sometimes you labour for a couple of days like this before active labour or am I just hoping?
Sorry it's long .

hi sorky..sounds like things are gearing up...really impossible to say if BH or pre labour..but things are moving up a level, which is marvellous news.....!! baby is head down, partially engaged and good to go ....there is no guarantee that this is 'it'...or that it isn;t !! which is frustrating...

you will know when it is time

remember, each twinge and niggle and pain is doing something positive...stretching the uterus up, pushing baby down, getting the cervix nice and soft and ready to go !

relax and potter, have a bath, remember to eat and drink and take the lead from your body.....

you can have a bit of a stop /start thing going on , then it all starts properly....

just take it easy, focus on this all being positive and remember, baby comes when he/she is ready !
\
you might have a few days of this, or not! you know it is an impossible question!

Well I'm still here . Got as far as 4min apart and lasting 1 minute so called the midwife out. Nope nothing going on except the pain. Cervix still medium to firm and 2cm, 1cm dilated, which given the amount of pain I was in, is just pathetic.
We'll see how things progress overnight, I'm told it's simply pre-labour, don't know how long it'll last, but once I'm starting to efface I should dilate pretty fast apparently.
Feeling very jipped it has to said .

sc,sympathies from another mum in waiting!! Im 40+1 and I agree the pain of bh's and all the waiting is frustrating and tiring.

Sending you {{hugs}} and positive vibes ++++++ xx

It's cack isn't it? The phonecalls have started too, may have to re-record ansaphone to "no I haven't had the baby yet, yes we will let you know, blah, blah, stop ringing!"

join the club. Im sure dh thinks I am a grumpy cow but he's not the one the size of a whale with raging hormones.
What annoys me most is the fact that some of these comments are coming from friends who already have kids.!!!!!!!

In fact one friend has taken to checking her works (NHS) records and the delivery suite if I haven't responded to her text within hours. Now that does feck me off. AND to add to it her ds has given dd a horrendous eye infection and a virus. . Just what we needed what I am waiting to give birth..joy to even little sleep for dh & I.......

God I do sound like I have been prodded with a cattle prod but like you said, people should know we will call them when baby has arrived.!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Feel like saying: Oh yeah, baby arrived 2 weeks ago. Did we forget to tell you..? Im sure we did mention it.

lulumama · 02/02/2007 12:23

lie on the sofa, with a box of cream cakes and think happy thoughts !! do not move, unless you need a wee

remain thus until labour starts !

(((hugs)))

i';ve said it before , i;ll say it again..all the twinges and niggels are doing something!

your labour will go off like a rocket when it starts !! LOL!

SHHHH · 02/02/2007 15:06

that sounds like a good idea and plan lm !!! atm sitting around seems to be all i am good at . Wanting to keep active by doing the housework but dh won't have it although I know for a fact housework is the last thing he wants to do.......Keep telling him it's nesting etc but think he knows me to well....too house proud..! BUT it takes my mind of things.LOL..!!!

Now where is that bag of mini eggs.......

SC any news your end..?
xx

sorkycake · 02/02/2007 15:22

sigh! none.
Good advice LM
M/w said yesteray not to wait until baby's head is on it's way before I ring, but I'm ever so embarrassed at my calling her when knowhere near labour that unless Dh rings out of desperation I'm gonna be sorely tempted not to ring until Ds2b is waving at me.
She said the effacing could take a couple of days and I could check myself whether it was getting anywhere, but that once it had thinned to ring if I start to niggle as she expects me to dilate fast and is worried she won't reach me. It took 45 minutes for her to get here last night!
I'm now getting the BH which were missing before so I guess something's happening .
Btw my FIL rang at 7.15am this morning and I shot out of bed thinking it may've been my mum and something was wrong with the dc's who stayed with them last night. I was furious with Dh when I went back to bed and have told him to 'have a word'. I mean that's just an ungodly hour to ring anyone, especially someone who may've just given birth for Christ's sake.

hope things move fast sc...Well I think I had a show this morning. Nothing to get excited about esp as I am not sure if it was a show...snot like and tinged with a little blood (old). Only about the size of half my thumb...

No change with me though. Still getting bh's but keep thinking that it won't be long and as lm said, trying to be positive.

Can I just say what a lovely day it is today. Haven't been out but dh says its a little chilly but its the most glorious sunshine and smells almost like spring...Sorry for the change of subject there .

I agree with your mw, you should tell her as soon as you think baby is coming. TBH, I know I will be out like a flash when I feel something is happening {my plan anyway!!) I was the same with dd and my waters went although she took around 10 hours to arrive.! Im a wimp and want some pain relief as soon as I can..Also hope to be dignified when I arrive at hospital and hope its night, just in case my waters break like they did last time in the car park . Heard to many horror stories of women clinging to walls at hospital before they reach the del suite while others watch on....

sorkycake · 02/02/2007 15:40

Sounds like a show to me.
Yes it is a beautiful day!
There is nothing dignified about pg or labour I find LOL. I'd quite like for once for my waters to go, or to have a show for that matter. Still there's time. Have cleaned out and refilled my pool today, just in case.

Debbsyandson · 02/02/2007 16:28

Sorry to crash awww lulu i miss this... xxxxxxxxxxxxx

lulumama · 02/02/2007 17:06

lol debbsy...you know what you need to do then , doncha ??

SHHHH · 02/02/2007 17:11

lm you are eating them coz they must be delish..!! ...mmmmmm you are right .

Ahhh so it is a show....reading about it apparently it means labour is on its way..so does this mean it will happen naturally or could I still end up going to 41+5 and needing an induction..?

See, with dd my waters went first and then once admittedn and asked for a urine sample the mw commented that it contained my show...I just thought it was bodily fluids iykwim!!!! Looks vile! Hey ho, all in the course of nature.!

SC, I take it you are having a home water birth..? Hopefully I can also have a wb at the hospital.
