Erm, can I just ask what people's experience's of hindwater leaks were??

I had a hindwater leak with ds at term+12. Felt a small gush, thought I'd wet myself , went to the loo, but when I got up gushed again. Just small gushes, but enough to wet my underwear and need a pad.
Anyway. I'm now term+3 (why can't I ever give birth early, or even on time?!!) and this evening just feel a little damp. There haven't been any gushes, just dampness. Colcourless, BTW. Have changed underwear twice, not because it was wet through, just to see, and each time have felt damp. BHs much the same as normal, nothing like labour pains. Baby been moving normally.
Do I assume I have a very slow leak? Do I wait and see what happens? I'm due to see mw for sweep tomorrow afternoon, can I wait until then and just see if I go into labour overnight (with ds I went to hospital and they wouldn't let me home again and spent a miserable 2 days in there until ds was born). The hospital is 45mins away, and it's ds's bedtime!

Thanks, Essbee, I do actually find it helpful reading other people's experiences (particularly when they say second time round went better ).
Just back from mw appt. She agrees it's probably a small hindwater leak, and gave me the hospital info about their protocol. They'll allow up to 96hrs for you to go into labour, so that made me feel easier. She wants me to phone labour ward again this evening, and see if they want me to go in tomorrow for examination etc. Suits me fine, the longer I'm left alone the better the chance of going into labour, I hope! She agreed with you, Lulu, that if it gets to induction they will probably start with rupturing the forewaters and seeing what happens.
She wouldn't sweep me though, and said nookie is off when your waters are gone (don't know if dh is upset or relieved )

My hosp only likes you to go 24 hrs after waters going-hate the inconsistency! Just wondering, d'you know a midwife can break your waters at a surgery? Do you have to stay in hospital after they've done it? Know there's an increased risk of infection, but if it'd happened naturally you wouldn't have to rush in.
Obviously thinking of me as much as you 2Happy!

2Happy · 25/01/2007 15:03

I don't think they can do them in the surgery because they like to monitor baby in case there's a problem with the cord when the waters go. I suspect if they did do it they'd insist you stay in, but I'm just guessing (my experience last time makes me think they just like insisting you stay in!!)

Any niggles yet??

I'll maybe come down tomorrow - might be safer to have lunch at the pub round the corner rather than you coming up here and the forewaters going all over Harvey Nick's floor . Or I could come via M&S and get some goodies????

Skyler · 25/01/2007 16:23

Breaking waters is considered intervention. I was warned there was no going back once my waters were broken. I would be having the baby that day at hospital. And had to be monitored regularly as well. Breaking waters just gave me the most pathetic contractions. I walked for miles trying to get things started round and round the block and up and down stairs.
I was so anti the synto drip and the midwives knew this and put it off for as long as poss. I was warned I would be on the drip by 11am but it was 1430 before I was hooked up, and dd2 was here by 1630. Made me wish I had just had it a lot earlier to be honest as it meant dd1 was with friends the whole day. She was absolutely fine and had a wonderful time but I was worrying about her too. So don't worry if they say you need synto. It isn't fun as pain more intense (no break etc as you know) but all over sooner in my experience.
Why didn't she give you a sweep? Good Luck.

sounds good 2happy !!! keep active if you can.. get baby right down.. is he/she engaged at all?

2Happy · 25/01/2007 19:43

Liath - sounds good, be good to see you
Skyler - I don't know, she's a bit anti-sweeps anyway, but I think it's the risk of infection meant she didn't want to guddle about down there. From last time, the mws on labour ward were really good, so I guess (when the time comes) I ought to take their advice!
Lulu - mw said still 3/5, but I think it's lower than it was because my bladder appears to have shrunk to the size of a 50p piece!
Still no sign of labour
