Erm, can I just ask what people's experience's of hindwater leaks were??

I had a hindwater leak with ds at term+12. Felt a small gush, thought I'd wet myself , went to the loo, but when I got up gushed again. Just small gushes, but enough to wet my underwear and need a pad.
Anyway. I'm now term+3 (why can't I ever give birth early, or even on time?!!) and this evening just feel a little damp. There haven't been any gushes, just dampness. Colcourless, BTW. Have changed underwear twice, not because it was wet through, just to see, and each time have felt damp. BHs much the same as normal, nothing like labour pains. Baby been moving normally.
Do I assume I have a very slow leak? Do I wait and see what happens? I'm due to see mw for sweep tomorrow afternoon, can I wait until then and just see if I go into labour overnight (with ds I went to hospital and they wouldn't let me home again and spent a miserable 2 days in there until ds was born). The hospital is 45mins away, and it's ds's bedtime!

You can't go into labour - what about our lunch at Harvey Nicks on Friday??

God, sisters can be so thoughtless.

2Happy · 24/01/2007 21:36

Funnily enough dm just said the exact same thing on the phone!! I suggested you may like to try the food at the Borders General instead?!!

Harrumph!

Very exciting though, hope something happens overnight.

See, 2Happy. No reason why you can't come & squelch in Harvey Nicks.

2Happy · 25/01/2007 07:56

Yes, still not sure if I fancy the journey up though, Liath!
IKWYM - Califrau - last time as soon as waters went I saw mw (admittedly because I already had appt with her) but went to hospital as ordered like total keen bean, expecting action. This time the last thing I want to do is go in!!
Not much action overnight, fingers crossed for today!

Liath/Lulu - can they give prostin if your waters have gone if you don't go into labour, or is their only option synt?

OP posts:
liath · 25/01/2007 08:47

Synto only as far as I remember, sorry. Have they definitely gone? How long will they leave you to establish - here it's 72 hours.

2Happy · 25/01/2007 09:33

Bollocks. I don't want synt.
Still small small amount clear fluid this morning. Phoned mw who said phone labour ward who were distinctly underwhelmed and don't want to see me - the answer I was looking for! Seeing mw at lunchtime, so will just see what happens between now and then. What's more likely to do the trick - painting the spare room or going for a walk

liath · 25/01/2007 09:37

Both?

Have this overwhelming urge to drive down & keep you company! Dd has bloody conjunctivitis so will be off nursery tomorrow anyway. Best laid plans .

2Happy · 25/01/2007 09:41

Conjunctivitis again?! What a PITA. If you're bored you're welcome to come down, though I'm not sure ds with conjunctivitis is a good idea if I am going to have this baby!

2Happy, ask your m/w for a sweep. That will get things moving fingers crossed.
I was induced with dd2 with just synto drip after they broke my waters and it took 2 hrs from drip in to dd2 here. So don't dread it too much. It was hard work but over so quickly and I felt much more full of energy than after dd1's birth. Good Luck.

2Happy · 25/01/2007 11:17

That's really reassuring, Skyler, just have this awful thing that I'll have synt up and end up strapped to the bed and drip and CTG and epidural and instrumental delivery, and frankly I'd rather be cut open than go through ds's birth again. Maybe synt isn't always so bad! Been for a vigorous walk, seeing mw in a couple of hours. Probably best not to try the natural prostaglandins before seeing her IYKWIM , will make do with vile raspberry leaf tea instead

Lol at natural prostoglandins.
Yes I was all wired up and that was horrid, but with the second I think your body remembers what it did and bits are already stretched etc so it responds quicker. DD2 got stuck at one point and they had to roll me onto my side (great tip) and dd2 shot down the birth canal so quickly it really frightened me. Was the only point I felt out of control with either births but my midwife was great and calmly said it is just the baby don't worry.
The speed of it all meant actually I look back as fondly as I did with dd1's water birth. Very different experiences but both good in different ways. The relief it was all over the second time was amazing, whereas the first time I revelled in it more and was totally astounded at this little baby I had produced. Second time I knew what would happen and so that was good too. And I knew dd2 was on her way before the m/w as I recognised the signs and feelings whereas with dd1 I was clueless.
It won't be long

2Happy · 25/01/2007 11:29

Damn these hormones, you've nearly had me in tears!
Thank you x

Sorry . It is amazing. I am quite jealous really. Having a new baby is such a special time. I loved it and enjoyed the second time much more in many ways. The worry and panic I had with dd1 wasn't there. I had the confidence that I missed with dd1. Problem is it flies by as you have your first born to look after too .
I can't wait to hear your news!!

lulumama · 25/01/2007 12:27

they could rupture the membranes fully, see if that helps, then go to synto..best thing is to stay busy and keep mind off it...why not have lunch at harvey nichs!!!!!!! LOL

prostin cannot be given if the waters have fully gone, don;t know if a hindwater leak counts.
