Erm, can I just ask what people's experience's of hindwater leaks were??

I had a hindwater leak with ds at term+12. Felt a small gush, thought I'd wet myself , went to the loo, but when I got up gushed again. Just small gushes, but enough to wet my underwear and need a pad.
Anyway. I'm now term+3 (why can't I ever give birth early, or even on time?!!) and this evening just feel a little damp. There haven't been any gushes, just dampness. Colcourless, BTW. Have changed underwear twice, not because it was wet through, just to see, and each time have felt damp. BHs much the same as normal, nothing like labour pains. Baby been moving normally.
Do I assume I have a very slow leak? Do I wait and see what happens? I'm due to see mw for sweep tomorrow afternoon, can I wait until then and just see if I go into labour overnight (with ds I went to hospital and they wouldn't let me home again and spent a miserable 2 days in there until ds was born). The hospital is 45mins away, and it's ds's bedtime!

sniff it , girl ! if it is sweet, tis your waters ! had a leak, woke up in labour the next day ! x

lulumama · 24/01/2007 19:05

don;t go to hospital , no need at all !

lulumama · 24/01/2007 19:05

IMO , that is ! a hind leak is not the same as your membranes rupturing, it will reseal if you do not go into labour

think positive labour thoughts !

Skyler · 24/01/2007 19:07

Ohhh 2happy. Hope this is the start for you. Could it be the start of a show???? I think you can wait and see for now. Good Luck!!

2Happy · 24/01/2007 19:10

I know about the sniffing thing - is it parsnips, right? Problem is, I had the lurgy and it went into my sinuses and I haven't got my sense of smell back yet!! (Nothing ever goes simply here!!!) Poor dh, maybe I should ask him to sniff my pants
lulu - not sure I like the idea of them sealing again, I want the baby out lol! I will visualise with all my might!
Skyler - damn I hope so!

Erm my waters didn't smell sweet.

lulumama · 24/01/2007 19:11

oooh..no...can;t take another DH/ pad sniffing thread! lol

it certainly indicates things are moving!

2Happy · 24/01/2007 19:14

Was it NatalieJane's thread the sniffing one? ROFL at that...little did I know that in a matter of weeks

lulumama · 24/01/2007 19:16

ooh yes...that was an epic, 2000+ post labour thread

i cannot , cannot do that again !! lol!

2Happy · 24/01/2007 19:23

Right, am going to pace the house for a bit, see what happens. Thanks all! (dh says "what would you do without MN, love?" snort)

When I had a waters scare in the States, the midwife told me that amniotic fluid smelt like semen and that dads in the labour room always started sniffing and looking puzzled when waters broke.

You could perhaps ask DH ask for a sample for comparison ...

Skyler · 24/01/2007 19:46

Exactly Dueat!!!!

2Happy · 24/01/2007 19:53

Well if nothing else, it's supposed to help get things moving anyway isn't it? Full of prostagalndins

LOL at Dueat44!1

2Happy · 24/01/2007 20:09

Unfortunately, lulu, I can pretty much guarantee that! Have a nice soak

back now !!

2Happy · 24/01/2007 20:41

That was quick!
One strong BH, but otherwise zilch. Am resigning myself to the long haul (again!). Can you recommend anything to speed it up, or should I relax and get the rest while I can?

lulumama · 24/01/2007 20:43

relax.....visualise.....not sure about sex if leak in the waters,

nipple stim, bouncing on the gym ball

and a good kip !

Well I'm on the ball at the moment, but spending too much time on MN to visualise, lol! Baby's still active, which is reassuring me. Suspect I may have to gorge on chocolate (just to build strength, you know) then head to bed in a bit.
Is there a reason why each pg would do this - go overdue, waters break (or at least leak!) but not go into labour? Blooming annoying!

2Happy · 24/01/2007 20:47

Sorry, x-posts essbee. When they went properly, what happened, did you go into proper labour?

OP posts:
lulumama · 24/01/2007 20:47

just the way your body likes to do it ! no rhyme or reason to this !

Hmm, sounds pretty familiar Essbee - with ds I ended up on synt, and had him 2 and a bit days after the leak started. 24hrs sounds a bit more manageable! I think I'll definitely just take it easy and see what happens.
Thanks for all your messages, I'll update if anything happens!
