Just found out my baby is breech, has anybody had a ECV

I'm 38+2 pregnant and have just found out that my baby is in a breech position. My hospital want to do a ECV, I will be exactly 39 weeks when they do it. The thing is Im not liking the idea of it at all. Just wondering if any of you have any experience of having one done and what the outcome was or if you opted to go straight for C Section.

I had an undiagnosed breech but had I had the option would have refused ECV.

I'm 34 weeks + and my baby is currently breech, they offered to do a ecv and I've refused. They will rescan me in a couple of weeks time and if still breech will have a c section

Hi, my baby was spotted as breech at s growth scan at 34 weeks. Had an ECV at 37 weeks, as he'd not moved (feet and head firmly wedged under my ribs) but it didn't work, so I ended up with a section anyway. The ECV was uncomfortable, bordering on painful; the consultant apparently had a great success rate but eventually conceded defeat! I'm glad I tried though l as I really wanted to avoid a section. Happy to go into more detail if you like.

I had an Ecv and it was very easy, took seconds, and was not uncomfortable at all. But my baby was small and I don't think my experience was the norm. I'm very glad I had it as it resulted in a head down vaginal birth.

I found out at 36 weeks at a sizing scan and was offered a ecv which I turned down and had a c-sect at 39+5 weeks. Breech baby was bottom first with feet by head and at nearly 10lbs I'm happy I opted for a c-sect

I had a successful ECV at 36 weeks which twinged a bit but having taken the recommended two paracetamol wasn't a problem. DS turned fine into head down position. They said only 1 in 25 turn again after that point. Nobody told DS. He decided he was an unstable lie.

The day before his due date they decided they would try again and then induce labour if they could get him into position. When I went in for the 2nd ECV he was already head down. At this point they told me that babies don't turn again.

At 40+3 I tried to inhale my dinner. Cue much coughing and a baby who chose to turn. Midwife's comment was that it didn't much matter until I went into labour. He spent then next few days transverse, head down, bottom down just as he pleased. I could only tell from a daily midwife check (at hospital insistence) and where I could feel his head when he got the hiccups. Happily at 40+8 when he decided to make an appearance he was head down and all went well for our home birth.

It's a very personal decision and depends on how you feel about a planned CS, an emergency CS, and your desire or otherwise for a vaginal delivery.

I was offered the ECV at 36 weeks but I turned this down as I thought if my baby was too turn he would do it by himself as i wasn't comfortable with the idea.
I had a section 10 days ago and feeling fine now , recovering well.

Thank you all for your response. I think I'm going to say no to the ECV. I don't like the idea of it myself. The hospital really pushed the ECV on us appointment isn't till Wednesday but I think I'm going to ring and say I've changed my mind. Thanks again

Breech birth!

My friend has an EVC. Baby got stressed and was still born. Say no, I can't believe they still do this.
Have a section.

I also turned down the ECV and went straight for c-section. Like you I didn't like the idea of it and the success rate wasn't great - I'd already been labouring for 48 hours (undiagnosed breech) so wanted her out fast!

I had an ECV at the same stage and had a natural delivery at 40 + 5, baby nearly 9 pounds. Left hospital same day. ECV uncomfortable but not painful and I would choose over a c section again.

I had a failed ecv at about 38 weeks. Had a c-section at 39 weeks, last week. It took a while to get her out as her bottom was stuck as her ankles were by her shoulders. Her legs still like to be poking up in the air at 5 days old.

I had a failed EVC last week,it was uncomfortable for a little while they tried. They said the week before that would give me gas and air while doing it but when I arrived said that they didn't do that! The rugs they give you to relax your uterus can make you feel very floppy afterwards for about an hour but work through your system quickly.

Luckily the consultant wasn't too obsessed by trying to get him to move. She said she could tell that she wouldn't be able to do it because of the way my stomach muscles were holding him in. It also makes it very unlikely he will spontaneously turn. I'm 39 weeks and booked for a C-section on Wednesday!

I had a failed ECV at 39+6 baby was transverse, worst pain in the world pain was worse than c-section recovery. The consultant was literally on top of me wresting my tummy. Wouldn't advise anyone trying it
