Confused - does this mean my cervix is 'ripening' or not?!

I'm 40 wks pg today, and at my midwife appointment yesterday I was told (after an exam) that my cervix was still quite far back, uneffaced, and 'nowhere near ready' for a sweep . I was a pretty disappointed as I was hoping things would be happening, or I would at least be 'getting there'! With dd1 I went 2 weeks overdue and was induced, so was hoping things may happen more naturally this time...
Anyway, this morning I've had a 'show' and am still getting traces of blood in the discharge. Does this mean things have changed overnight and I'm closer to going into labour - or am I getting my hopes up for nothing?! I know pregnancy is not an exact science, but I'm sure there are MNs out there who have a better idea than I do about this - all help / advice (as always) appreciated! Thanks x

Last time I had a show about 5 or 6 days before I went into labour. I was 5 days overdue when I went into labour. It definately means something is happening though! Good luck, you'll be having a baby really soon! Am jealous I've got 7 weeks to go and feeling impatient to be at your stage!

Things can change overnight, and a show is a good sign, although I had a show two weeks before giving birth. Hope you don't have too much longer to wait.
