What does this mean? Did I have a really big fanny then?

Both my babies, more than 8 lb with larger thn averge heads(ds1 has to wear 6-8 yr old hats - he is 3), left me with no tear at all. I am only 5'2 so did not expect this. Am also not particularly earshaped.

I'm built like the Chnnel Tunnel, aren't I?

it's all about how relaxed you are too though, or that's what I like to tell myself anyway

I had DD1 (8lbs on the button) in hospital and was VERY tense, cue nice big tear

had DD2 at home, in water, extremely relaxed, 10lbs and not a scratch

nope, nothing to do with the chunnel factor, oh no, not at all...

VeniVidiVickiQV · 09/01/2007 20:01

Yes Fio, and it smells of roses too I bet...

I think that, like with mooncups - if you have had a baby a bigger one is required (which anyone giving you an internal should know prior to examining you just from your notes and by talking to you.

Well, not bigger, but, if they are examining a vagina that hasnt successfully passed something baby sized through it, they would choose something smaller so as not to cause pain or damage if it doesnt stretch so well maybe?

MegaLegs · 09/01/2007 20:03

DS3 was 10lb15 and he barely touched the sides

That's bolleaux actually I felt every last ounce of him.

I didn't tear though.

I hoped I was elastic but I had some pelvic floor probs after and the doctor inserted two fingers and asked me to squeeze - I squeezed as hard as I could and he said "go on squeeze now please". Barst**d

Have had beer, will regret this post tomorrow

MrsJohnCusack · 09/01/2007 20:05

just stretchy I reckon

I still have hideous flashbacks to DD's birth and one midwife conversationally saying to another 'ooh, quite a long perineum'

charming

mosschops30 · 09/01/2007 20:09

colditz I know how you feel my friend had her 6lb baby with a forceps delivery and lots of stitches.
ds was 7.5lb and no stitches, when i told her this she just said 'well thats cos youve got a massive fanny' which she still tells me now

hoping i will just cough the next one out

rhubarbcat · 09/01/2007 20:21

Speculums don't come in different sizes.

Colditz - sounds like you must have had a lovely well controlled birth - well done.

Pesha · 09/01/2007 20:34

Pmsl laughing at megalegs.

Sorry

Have always secretly worried this myself. Dd was 8lb and had slight tear but no stitches required and ds was 8lb5 and no tear at all and he just popped out with the waters.

No complaints at all from dp tho so cant be too bad

nappyaddict · 09/01/2007 20:35

it is more to do with your positioning and timing if you ask me. when i had ds the mw made me wait even though i had an urge to push cos she said i would tear. i'm not sure why this is. anyway i held on and had a tiny graze so she must know what she was talking about. ds was 7lb 4.5 oz.

also water births are supposed to prevent tearing.

NotAnOtter · 09/01/2007 20:37

rhubarb how do you know about speculums?

rhubarbcat · 09/01/2007 20:41

Am a STUDENT midwife. Please notice the emphasis on the student though

jampots · 09/01/2007 20:43

I cant even manage a mooncup !

fishie · 09/01/2007 20:44

when i went for smear test after having ds the doc had to go and get another speculum after i protested loudly. so they must come in different sizes or what was the other one for?? (slightly worried)

hertsnessex · 09/01/2007 20:47

well done colditz, you must have had a fab birth where you were so relaxed and in 'your own space' that you opened up really well. good for you!

cx

rhubarbcat · 09/01/2007 20:48

I just looked on the medisave website and there are different size ones!

Funny 'cos I've only ever seen one size at work and never heard a m/w mention different sizes.

popsycal · 09/01/2007 20:54

stretchy fanjos unite

big baby
quick (and then lightning fast with ds2) deliveries
not battle wounds

popsycal · 09/01/2007 20:55

forgot to add
ds1 7lb 10oz so not MASSIVE
ds2 (the amazing lightning delivery) 8lb 11oz with the assistance of one paracetomol taken 25 mins beofre he arrived

Dinosaur · 09/01/2007 20:55

Me too, colditz, three babies, largest one was 9lb6oz, and only had a very tiny tear - no stitches required with any of them.

VeniVidiVickiQV · 09/01/2007 20:57

rhubarbcat - maybe they didnt know either

Dinosaur · 09/01/2007 20:57

Oh yes, and DS3 had his arm up by his face as well . Fab Dutch midwife hoiked him out.

bananaloaf · 09/01/2007 20:58

i had a sweep before ds2 and the mw said afterwards sorry it took so long but you have a very long vagina [shocked] i visible saw my dh male ego disappear in smoke

rhubarbcat · 09/01/2007 20:58

Probably our bankrupt hospital can only afford to buy one size

NotAnOtter · 09/01/2007 20:58

there you go Rhubarb!!! I taught you something today!

NotAnOtter · 09/01/2007 20:59

now we need to know how they decide..........
