Did anyone else enjoy giving birth?

i did with DS1- tho had a bad tear, but i was looking forward to giving birth all through my 2nd pregnancy and really enjoyed it (homebirth in pool)

both times i had no drugs at all,

i know its only because i had quick (both 5.5 hours from start to finish) and complication free births,

my mum loved giving birth and so did my MIL - so i know im not the only one

i've had an easy birth and a terrifying one but i loved both (obviously not the moment when i though dd was dead but the general experiance)

both mine were long early labour but very quick from 5cm to 10cm but completely pain relief free and with ds i had a physiological 3rd stage as well.

PinkTulips · 05/01/2007 16:06

btw expat.... both mine came out with their arm across their faces..... very odd! i had been telling the midwife for ds's birth about it happening with dd before he was born so one of the first things i heard while swooning at him all soggy and wet on my tummy was 'he was clawing his way out just like his sister' i sometimes think they were meant to be twins but ds got delayed as there are alot of weird similarities between them

Pink Tulips, my ds came out with his arm across his face and as I pushed him out he waved to the world. I got a tear because of it, but the midwife said it was pretty funny.

I loved giving birth, would rather that than go to dentist, in fact I would love to give birth again but I have 3 children and think a 4th would just be to much financially, stress wise etc.

juuule · 05/01/2007 19:10

Ooohh definitely second the dentist thing.

tinkerbellie · 05/01/2007 19:18

i hated it the first time git induced and it took ages and they had to take blood from his head it was hurrendous.
i was dreading having my daughter but it only took half and hour and as great, would def do again if dh would let us!!

sexkittyinwaiting · 05/01/2007 20:31

I would rather go to the dentist, but then again i quite like having injections

GoodKingWestCountryLass · 05/01/2007 20:51

I did

can't help but think only going to happen a few times in life time and unique experience that had to enjoy it. I think the gas and air helped ;)

Toady · 05/01/2007 20:59

lol at 2botsmama

Had a fantastic birth with DS3, did go from 1cm to 10cm in 10 minutes but apart from panicing people around me it was the best experience I have ever had feeling my baby being pushed out even though it was bloody painful.

Toady · 05/01/2007 21:01

The gas and air definitely helped, its amazing stuff, love it.

SmileysPeople · 05/01/2007 21:04

Loved it with DS2 one of my best experiences ever. I always describe it like running a marathon (I imagine),difficult, painful but the high and sense of acheivemnt are unbeatable!!

DS1 a different story

2boysmacca · 05/01/2007 21:31

I know my arse is large, butt surely it can't be seen from that distance

Gas and air, like being pi**ed without the sickness????

sexkittyinwaiting · 05/01/2007 21:36
Grin
skibump · 05/01/2007 22:41

Yep, gas & air fantastic. Only problem was they took it away 4 3rd stage - just when I needed it most!

Gingeme · 05/01/2007 22:46

1st no hated all of it but was sodrugged up I missed most of it
2nd was very calm and quiet just me and the midwife
3rd realy enjoyed with just water for pain relief. Our little torpedo baby]]
4th was home birht and I was so in control and relaxed it was fast furious and fantastic. Oh and my last one

Spidermama · 05/01/2007 22:49

I loved my first and third. Second and fourth were very tough. Am currently MNing (as well as other stuff) in spot where number four came out. Wincing at the memory.

SlightlyMadScientist · 05/01/2007 23:11

Loved giving birth - labour is not so great though!!!

Twinklemegan · 05/01/2007 23:14

Skibump - didn't get my g&a til I was nearly at the third stage. I'd already done the worst bit!

cece · 05/01/2007 23:14

I liked the drugs and the high feeling afterwards but the actual birth no

Twinklemegan · 05/01/2007 23:15

Oops - sorry, that should've been second stage, in which case it's not really relevant - sorry!

skibump · 05/01/2007 23:53

come to think of it I spent most of first stage in the car making dh promise he'd stop me ever doing this again :-) Was 2nd stage that felt fantastic

beansontoast · 08/01/2007 17:18

i cant decide...on balance i think i am SHTTNG MY PANTS about number two ...not due untill august.that said there were some good bits.

pain = not very nice atall (see expat's butter knife quote)...didnt cope atall well...begged for general anaesthetic,to die etc ....buuuuut then it wasnt for very long.

pushing = not bad.ds came out in a couple of squeezes...though he was in the ideal position and not huge...so i think i liked that bit...cant remember it hurting .DID NOT want to feel the head or any of that stuff...just wanted it OUT

psychological stress = i am so rubbish...i have 'special fear' at the best of times..which was compounded by the very real risk that i could bleed to death (plummeting platelets...oooh drama)

drugs = fantastic.i can fault gas and air.pethidine was the only thing i didnt want and it turned out to be the only thing i could have ...id give it 9/10 for recreational use and 2/10 for pain relief.

i think im going to go for hypnotherapy and yoga type stress relief this time.

gulp.
