Did anyone else enjoy giving birth?

kittylette · 03/01/2007 23:06

i did with DS1- tho had a bad tear, but i was looking forward to giving birth all through my 2nd pregnancy and really enjoyed it (homebirth in pool)

both times i had no drugs at all,

i know its only because i had quick (both 5.5 hours from start to finish) and complication free births,

my mum loved giving birth and so did my MIL - so i know im not the only one

I loved giving birth, I hated being pregnant, but I love it and would do it a hundred times if I could.

juuule · 04/01/2007 09:16

Another one here I enjoyed giving birth. So much I did it 9 times. Aren't I greedy

expatinscotland · 04/01/2007 09:20

Hated being pregnant, too.

Oddly enough, though, after giving birth to DD2, I had this hormone surge that left me incredibly full of energy and . . . broody!

Now that she's one year old, however, it's nice to have some freedom back - being able to go out and stay out as she naps in her buggy, eats real food, etc.

scorpio1 · 04/01/2007 15:24

i loved giving birth-nothing in the world beats that feeling of working hard to get what you want at the end.

that first moment is magic. wish i could bottle it!

CallieNewYear · 04/01/2007 19:16

Hunkermunker, you've given me hope - I've had similar story to you, bad endo, horrendous periods, as you say no let up in pain whatsoever, also had abdo surgery - am now expecting first in March and am figuring nothing - NOTHING - can be worse than the pain I've needlessly been through over the past decade or so, or the pain from ovarian cysts. At least this will be the body doing what it's supposed to for a change!

Of course I may be saying something very different in the post-match analysis....let's hope not

funnypeculiar · 04/01/2007 19:24

Agree - would almost want to give birth for other people - but not great at being pg ... surrogate birth-er?! With DD (2nd) - think the senseation of pushing was the closest I've ever come to being totally serene in my own body - the most wierdly transcendetal experience of being simulataneously totally in and out of control. Humm, kind of reminds me of sex....

Blandmum · 04/01/2007 19:27

Yes, particularly ds who was an elective section.

I also quite enjoyed that section I had with dd. I wasn't so pleased with the 2 days prior to that though!

foxinsocks · 04/01/2007 19:32

that's funny hunker because I too have always had horrendous period pain (and suspected endo - but nothing as bad as you describe you poor thing) so when labour came around, I must admit, the pain was very similar so I felt strangely reassured.

I'm not sure I'd use the word 'enjoy' but both my labours were very quick and I certainly didn't enjoy being pregnant so for me, labour was a complete and utter relief.

sexkittyinwaiting · 04/01/2007 19:33

God I hated it everytime. I've never had any pain relief for my vag births. I am 30 weeks preg with no.6 now and am still terrified of those awful ist stage contractions. Tbh the pushing comes as a relief as that bit doesn't really hurt much.

PoppiesMum · 04/01/2007 19:36

Yes - I feel extremely lucky that my first birth happened so quickly and straighforwardly (3 hours from arriving at hopsital to baby on my chest!), and although the pain was like nothing I'd ever known, I can't wait to do it again!

2boysmacca · 04/01/2007 19:56

I loved it. Hated being pregnant. Hate hate hate!

1st went from 3cm to giving birth in 2.5 hours - pain was something else - I called out for every drug going but didn't manage to get any of it. Ventouse, tore inside and out but fond memories of the huge 'pop' as he was sucked out. Left me on the bed for next 4 hours until someone realised I hadn't been stitched. Felt every single pin prick and screamed throughout whole ordeal. Still 'enjoyed' the birth though.

Second birth was at home. 4cm to birth in 1hr 45 mins. Remembered at that point how f*cking painful it was but enjoyed it. Pushing a child out is the most exhilorating experience you can ever imagine. I am scared I will never feel those emotions ever again.

Now period pain, cannot cope with those at all.....

sexkittyinwaiting · 04/01/2007 22:32

2botsmacca, last time I went from 3cm to 10 in 20 mins. The pain was shocking. After she was born I was having convulsions I was so shocked. I can easily say that the birth was good but I didn't enjoy it one bit.

sexkittyinwaiting · 04/01/2007 22:32

Sorry meant 2boys not bots, didn't mean you had 2 bottoms

mummyjx · 04/01/2007 22:45

My first was a doddle (ish) - had lovely water birth (tried TENS, gas'n'air & a little bit of pethidine). V chilled out, nice clean pink baby (still a bit of a sting though). 2nd was hell - midwife was reading the instructions on how to do waterbirth throughout. Went in pool too early, got too chilled out and had to do the whole PAINFUL messy & grim on-the-bed thing with only gas'n'air. Also had to have episiostomy and there was a tv directly opposite the bed so I got to watch the reflection of the whole procedure and then got a nasty, purple, sticky baby with a cord round it's neck (he's fairly normal now though). Seems funny now, but wasn't!!! Am dreading third. Will have everything going and then some.

krabbiepatty · 04/01/2007 22:51

Hmm, having given birth is great..

Twinklemegan · 04/01/2007 22:51

LOL Krabbiepatty!

thewoodlandfairy · 04/01/2007 22:53

homebirth for dd2 - wonderful! Much more in control. Dh had a role, tea making and handing round biscuits. Midwife dozing on sofa, me watching the gorgeous Kevin Mc wotsit on re-runs on Grand Designs on the tv. Later sipping on gas and air and then the babe being born - WOW! Sat and held her and gazed and jsut felt so complete and fulfilled and relaxed. My own clean bath afterwards, then quietly snuggled up as a family in our bedroom. DD1 wandered in in the morning and we showed her precious little sister swaddled up in the moses basket. It couldn't have been better

magicstaronthefarawaytree · 05/01/2007 00:06

yep x 3

prettymum · 05/01/2007 00:09

i enjoyed both, after dc1 i got jealous when i heard about other birth stories!! had brilliant pregnancies and both labours were obviously painful but straightforward.

but after the last few nights of ds teething ive decided no more children!!

MrsSpoon · 05/01/2007 00:11

First time no, second time was euphoric.

skibump · 05/01/2007 00:22

Strange how usually you only ever hear the horror stories! Funnyp, I felt same as you, out-of-body-in-body thing and really powerful. Really good midwives helped....

Linnet · 05/01/2007 00:56

first time no
second time YES

Peridot30 · 05/01/2007 01:03

NO NO NO NO NO! AAAARRRRGGGGHHH!

Why would you enjoy being stuck on a bed with constant pain and being continually monitored. Was induced with both. Worth it in the end though.

NatalieJane · 05/01/2007 15:52

With DS1 I can't remember enough of it to comment really! I was induced, I had every drug going, was completely out of the world for nearly the whole of it.

With DS2 (which was only 4 weeks ago so forgive me if I gush a bit!!) I can honestly say I loved giving birth, would do it all again tomorrow if I could! I was induced again due to pre-eclampsia, I only had about 3 puffs of gas and air, so I wasn't away with the fairies, and I did scream the place down around me, but now I can't describe how proud of myself I am!!
