Anyone with experience of ELCS at Warwick Hospital? Which consultant?

I've just discovered I'm pg with dc3 and am 4-5 weeks. Very early days but I want to decide by my booking appointment where I'd like to deliver.

I had dd1 vaginally in 2009 but it was a long labour, she got stuck, I pushed for 2 hours and damaged my tailbone in the process. It's never been the same since. So, I requested an ELCS at Birmingham Women's Hospital for dd2 in 2012.

I got the ELCS in the end, but it was a horrible process to go through. The consultant I saw was very unsupportive and unsympathetic, scared me witless with worst-case CS outcomes. However, he eventually agreed and the actual ELCS by him was amazing: no infections and I healed very well ... but I'm just not sure I could face him again. Brilliant ELCS experience, but very distressing getting to it with him.

I'm torn between going with who and where I know (and hoping I wouldn't be pushed towards VBAC - I should have an easier time having has one CS already, right?), or trying Warwick. I've no idea about consultants, though, so would appreciate hearing from you if you know. What is Warwick like? Is it nice and clean? Are the staff attentive?

Hi, I'm 27 weeks pregnant with DC2. Recently moved to the Solihull area. As I can't give birth at Solihull hospital (as this is me drive led) heartlands would have been the obvious choice, as its part of the same trust. However, having been to heartlands once and hearing people's experiences I opted to go for Warwick, even though I'd never been there. Obviously I don't know what the maternity ward itself is like, but from what I've seen of the women's unit and the staff it was the right choice for me. Hope this helps.

Thank-you, Miffy. I know some people who have delivered at Heartlands and it seems experiences are either wonderful, or not great. I'm thinking of asking to visit Warwick and Heartlands, although this seems to be jumping the gun a little, to visit before even having my booking appointment!

Yes still early days but it's helpful if you can make up your mind before your booking appointment. That way, the midwife can complete the necessary form to transfer you to that hospital and there won't be a delay getting your scan. With me it wasn't a problem to pick a different hospital, they didn't even ask me why...

I didn't have an elc at Warwick so can't give you any advice on consultants etc but I did have my lo there vaginally back in dec 2013 if at all that will help.

Obviously this is from my own personal experience as I have friends who had babies at Warwick and had completely different experiences to me.

I was fortunate to have a fantastic midwife and a really good labour they listened to what I wanted and looked after me but I was a very low risk case I'm currently 37 weeks pregnant with a breech baby so if she doesn't turn I can defo give you my experience of a c section at Warwick in the next few weeks.

It's a small maternity wing and about 2/3 year ago they had a cash injection and improve some of the facilities I think it was mostly reception and scbu, from what I remember it seemed a very clean facility they also have private rooms for aftercare for a fee but at quite times when available I believe you can request them foc, I know my friend did. The staff were very attentive but I may of just got luck of the draw that day. I have had a couple of friends who have had elcs and have both had positive experiences saying it was nice and relaxed considering.my friends who have had negative experiences have been vaginal and mostly it's been down to the length of there labours and size of babies etc.

I know they do tours if you contact them though not sure when within your pregnancy they do this I remember having my tour quite late on.

Anyway not really sure if this is much help to you but just wanted you to know about positive experience.

Thanks Rev, that is really helpful Please do post when you're ready if your baby is delivered by ELCS. It all sounds very positive and I hope you have the birth you want.

Didn't have a cs but had 2 positive births at Warwick (in terms of care during and after anyway!). Found staff to be all very nice and person centred but didn't see a consultant there.
