Any pains worse than childbirth?

Wondering if anyone who has given birth feel they have experienced pain that is worse than the pain of child birth?

That was to bumble btw

The trigeminal neuralgia pain was way worse than childbirth. Like a pp I'm actively scared of it flaring up again. There are documented cases of people killing themselves because of the pain. Or over-medicating themselves to avoid the pain and dying from the overdose. And not urban myth cases either. I was a member of a fb page for TN in the first year after my diagnosis and 2 separate people passed away because of the medication they took to try and stop the pain.

I didn't scream in pain in labour. And couldn't scream in pain with TN as even breathing sent extra pain through me due to the air triggering on the nerve. It is a pain that leaves me writhing and flinching and hissing and moaning in pain when it comes.

Flowers to all in pain though. The worst pain for anyone really must be just the pain they are having to go through at that moment in time.

treaclesoda · 28/11/2015 20:46

I didn't scream in labour either. Not because it wasn't painful though, just because I am a 'withdraw' type rather than a 'let it all out' type. I did moan though, I really tried so hard to be silent but I couldn't.

I have a rare skin condition, a bit like eczema but a million times worse (I am lucky, I have both and can compare Angry ). The pain and itching were so bad at one point that I begged dh to knock me unconscious. Bless him, he took me to A&E instead.

I've had gall stones, (masses of them, and have had my gallbladder out and a stent put in), multiple kidney stones (I pass out) a ruptured ovarian cyst(passed out), a very long and bad labour, a crap emergency section which took forever to get over, three impacted wisdom teeth with abscess, and a dental crown that didn't take. I've pulled my back out so I couldn't walk, (blue lighted into a and e) and pinched my sciatic nerve, and broken my wrist. Double pneumonia was quite painful too.

But all doable.

The worst pain I've had is recurring mastitis - that made me want to scream and scream in agony and chop off my boobs!
I think it was worst because I couldn't take anything for it, and I had hungry babes who were crap latchers, and I knew I'd have to feed them shortly! Thre was no escape and it was unrelenting.

The pain after orthopaedic surgery was way worse than childbirth for me!

PhilLevel · 28/11/2015 21:23

Ectopic pregnancy. It was like something burrowing its way relentlessly through my insides for several hours. Unfortunately I didn't know what it was, never having experienced a ruptured tube before. Never felt pain like it before or since. Childbirth was painful but not excruciating. I had no pain relief first time and gas and air second time (which was about as much use as a chocolate fireguard!).

2 Lumber punctures (cocked up the first) during difficult 30 hour labour felt AS painful as the contractions. Thank goodness I was unconscious for the third Lumber Puncture a few weeks later! As a PP said, morphine didn't make a single bit of difference. The Spinal during labour felt amazing though!

Dislocating my shoulder was nothing in comparison.

nightsky010 · 28/11/2015 21:36

^Spinal anaesthetic

Dolly80 · 28/11/2015 21:43

Years before I have birth I had kidney stones. The pain was unbearable and lasted for days. When I had contractions the level of pain was similar (I didn't find labour itself too bad).

Dolly80 · 28/11/2015 21:43

*gave not have

alltheworld · 28/11/2015 21:45

Post spinal tap headache.....far worse

RB68 · 28/11/2015 21:46

Gallstones and getting them stuck, just unreal levels of pain. There is an official pain chart and there are quite a few things that top the pain scales other than childbirth - gallstones and kidneystones are one but there are other things as well.

I remember being 6mths pregnant on my hands and knees in the bathroom unable to get up, wretching and trying to control everything whilst on the phone to NHS call centre who got me a Dr to speak to who told me I had indigestion, I hung up and phoned an ambulance

Hastagwhatever · 28/11/2015 21:50

Tooth infection. I'd gladly give birth over another tooth infection.

Notso · 28/11/2015 22:02

Of all the pain I have experienced I found childbirth to be the most manageable.

I found the after pains experienced during breastfeeding DC4 excruciating. Far worse than the contractions I had with him.
I was writhing around on the bed and really had to psyche myself up when he wanted feeding. I begged the midwife for gas and air when I had needed no pain relief in labour but was just given a paracetamol.

Atypical Trigeminal Neuralgia, misdiagnosed as sinusitis, stress headaches, and dental pain for 6 years. 6 years of trying to treat it with bloody analgesics, antibiotics and root canal treatments. I could have hugged the locum who finally worked it out and prescribed me amitriptiline/gabapentin. Funnily enough it eased when I was pregnant and I am managing fine medication free while I breastfeed DD.

I was induced and went from occasional mild cramps pain to full blown frequent contractions instantly once on the drip. I was stuck on the bed for monitoring, could barely move with SPD and started throwing up. I don't remember much except kneeling, leaning against the bed and moaning 'breathe' loudly. The 'ring of fire' felt like it went on for at least twenty minutes. But there was a purpose to it all and I knew it would end so I would still rather do that again than have my worst times with neuralgia.

vichill · 28/11/2015 22:34

A scratched cornea. Vile.

krisskross · 28/11/2015 22:35

Torn ligaments in my foot.

ilovehotsauce · 28/11/2015 22:36

Dental pain, various vein removal, maybe even breaking my little finger.

No pain relief except about 10minutes of gas and air.

Childbirth pain is not constant it comes in waves is manageable and is purposeful.

MyLifeisaboxofwormgears · 28/11/2015 22:39

Passing a kidney stone - no possibility of an epidural for that one.

Arg!

Childbirth varies from labour to labour. So much depends on the position of the baby and if you ate unlucky enough to tear. Pain is subjective and feat plays a huge role.

winchester1 · 29/11/2015 06:10

I was hysterical during my colonoscopies' far more so than during labour. Labour I more able to concentrate through the contractions except for the last 10 min or so.

Cymraesfach · 29/11/2015 06:18

Gallstones. Much worse than forceps without epidural or second degree tear fixed with nothing but gas and air.

NationMcKinley · 29/11/2015 06:38

Redannie yes YES to the steroid wrist injections! Oh my God, I thought my wrist was going to explode. If I hadn't had 3 year old DS with me I would have screamed and thumped the consultant (never a good move, especially when he's a colleague Wink). It has worked, but I'm not sure I'd do it again
