hey I am 39 weeks and bored just wanting to pass the time!! Have tried all the old wives tales like curry, pineapple, scrubbing floors
andgoing up and down stairs, oh and sex !
None of which seem to have worked as he's still firmly tucked up in there!!
Just interested to know if any of these or anything else has been successful for anyone, and how many weeks were you when you tried it??
thenks in advance for relieving my boredom!!

orgasm.

not joking. was 39.

Bugsy2 · 11/12/2006 12:40

I tried absolutely every trick going, apart from castor oil, which just seemed so disgusting. I went to nearly 2 wks overdue & nothing, nothing, nothing worked. Had to be induced.

MascaraOHara · 11/12/2006 12:41

sex.

MascaraOHara · 11/12/2006 12:42

(you have to really enjoy yourself iykwim)

natural induction tips

babies arrive when they are ready....!! you can try to help ripen the cervix , ready for labour to start ......and it gives you a focus., rather than waiting...

sweeps only work if you would go into labour within 24 - 48 hours anyway........

sex is really the one that is the most effective......the prostoglandins in semen to help ripen the cervix and orgasm can help kickstart contractions. nipple stimulation can also help strengthen contractions

some babies need to be in utero for 42 weeks.....!

do not try castor oil....you will end up with horrific diaorrhea and pain and possibly labouring on the toilet ..

taylormama · 11/12/2006 13:01

i think i helped start my own labour - i walked and walked and walked and walked - ate loads of pineapple, curries and drank raspberry leaf tea ... this was over a weekend and i went into labour on the Monday morning ... was going to have sex but DH looked so horrified at the thought i think he was relieved when it all kicked off. DONT TRY CASTOR OIL - potentially not good for you - probably just make you go to the loo loads.

puffling · 11/12/2006 13:04

I obtained a gentleman's tincture from dh the night I went into labour.

lulumama · 11/12/2006 13:11

i had a kebab and chilli sauce and woke up in labour !

poppiesinalinewithtinsel · 11/12/2006 13:16

I was 39+4 days and begged my DH to have sex with me to kick it all off.. I was so fed up... he refused So I trotted off to bed on my own at 9.30 pm. I woke up at 4 am having contractions

Now if DH had obligued I would have been utterly convinced sex had brought on labour

I think babies arrive when they are ready to.

lollipopz · 11/12/2006 13:20

LOL, thanks everyone , so sex seems to be the fave!! hmm, just a wee bit concerned about going into hospital and all the midwives etc know you have "done it"! IYKWIM!!
I know he will come when he's ready, just trying to pass the time before he does!!

sex worked with 1st pregnancy, straightaway contractions started and daughter came 3 days before due date. but 2nd one, ds was adamant not to come out!! 5 days late

Heathcliffscathy · 11/12/2006 13:30

sex with you orgasming.....or not sex and you orgasming. definitely brought my labour on. mascara's right....you need to really enjoy yourself!!!

imnot27 · 11/12/2006 13:55

Downing 9 mugs of raspberry leaf tea in two hours brought on 2.5 hour labour! If you do try a bit of babydancing, use a condom.... then, if you do rush to hospital the midwives won't be sniggering to themselves!

Heathcliffscathy · 11/12/2006 13:56

'babydancing' barf. that term is enough to bring labour on in me, and i'm not pregnant!!!!

lulumama · 11/12/2006 13:57

DON'T use a condom...it is the prostoglandin in the semen that helps ripen the cervix !!!!!

lulumama · 11/12/2006 13:58

i think the midwives see enough bodily fluids to not care if there is evidence of sex ! after all, that is what got the baby in there.......

MKGnearlyimmaculateconception · 11/12/2006 14:01

I'm with the others on sex, it didn't help me, but if dh helped get that baby in there, it's his job to help get it out.

imnot27 · 11/12/2006 14:08

Oh is that true about the prostoglandin? Doh, silly me..... What's wrong with babydancing? Thought 'shagging' may offend...... Jumping up and down for twenty minutes is good apparently.

Plibble · 11/12/2006 20:35

You're only 39 weeks. I know the waiting is boring, but in my family we seem to have a 41 week gestation period, so your body might not respond to the various recipes on here just yet! I eventually went into labour at 41+3. It was triggered by me getting really angry with the hospital when, after they had told me that I needed to be induced on a specific day (because of a high bp) they then couldn't find me a bed at the last minute. I had hoped to try the more jolly methods mentioned on this thread, but DH refused to do his duty in case I squashed him to death! Maybe wait a week and then get really stroppy with someone!?!

Galmum · 11/12/2006 20:39

Go on a trip to Ikea!!

I was n't planning for it to help labour along as I was only 39+2. We shopped all day, got home, had a lie down and whoosh...the waters broke!!

2nervesnapartridgeinapeartree · 11/12/2006 20:47

Think a combination of a hot curry, and a long walk helped, but maybe it was just the right time (5 days after due date) for my DS to be born.

Couldn't have considered sex, nor could my DH!

persephonesnape · 11/12/2006 21:36

i really can't advise anything - i was two weeks over with two of my three and the only thing that started labour was the threat of induction! i think the raspberry leaf tea certainly helped with the speed of the 2nd and 3rd labours, and once they had started trying to stay active, moving around and changing position a lot seeme dto help speed things along.

hey, look on the bright side! at 39 weeks, you could have three whole weeks to go! ;)

MistletoeandPebblemum · 11/12/2006 21:41

Plan a great day out something you have been wanting to do for ages and i can bet the baby will decide to arrive. For some reason they always choose the worst moment.

On a more serious note sex seems to work best. I tried everything with ds2 though but nothing worked and he was eventually born 8 days late. I think no matter what we try doesnt count for anything,if the baby is too warm and comfy inside it wont shift until its ready. A horrible thought when you desperately want to meet him/her

JennStarOfWonder · 11/12/2006 21:56

Raspberry leaf TABLETS not tea as they are much stronger, but they don't bring on labour they make contractions stronger so labour quicker.

I walked a few miles the day I went into labour. Already mentioned sex, with or without partner, and nipple stimulation....

Nipple stimulation REALLY gave me strong cramps. You are meant to do it for an hour 3 times a day, but the cramps were too strong after only 10mins I had to stop.

olittletownofberolina · 11/12/2006 22:00

Put an Ikea changing unit together. 'Worked' for me, at 37+5 (birth not until 2 days later) - I'd only just bl**dy gone on leave and was looking forward to a week or two of rest - though I was very glad not to go overdue.
