Faecal Incontinence and fourth degree tear - any good advice?

I had a fourth degree tear in June this year and I am still experiencing difficulties. I am attending physio but that does not seem to be making any difference. They are now talking of refering me to a surgeon. Does anyone have any advice.

I would push about going to see a surgeon, you obviously need to get this sorted, it can't be nice for you.

Oh sweetie, it sounds like you really need to see a surgeon. Have you had all the ultrasound checks? (Nice, aren't they?! )

I had a bad third degree tear in April last year and was faecally incontinent for a while, but physio (over six months) really helped me, thankfully. I think you should consider the surgical route - it can really help and it sounds like you need it.

The way they repair you at the birth can make a big difference to your continence. Think of seeing a surgeon as just redoing what should have been done stitches-wise at the time, rather than a big operation...?

I have not had any ultra sound checks. How do they do them, or do I not want to know! There is talk of me seeing a surgeon who specialises in this area. I was repaired in theatre after delivery by three consultants and it took about an hour and a half. The tearing never caused any pain, but it has obviously done some major damage
