Am I in labour???

I know it has been done 1000 times before, but if nothing else I just want something to do with myself while my body decides what it is going to do.

I felt fine all day, got to about about 5 o'clock-ish, and very suddenly started to feel sick, didn't want to eat dinner but DH made me eat some toast which perked me up a bit, have been having fairly mild but intense contractions (can you have mild and intense at the same time?!!) with a tiny bit of back pain, coming every 8-10 minutes or so. The contractions aren't painful, but just really tight, and the baby has dropped really low.

Anyone who has followed the last 5 weeks with me, this is completely different to every contraction I have had before!

I actually feel really silly posting this, in case it turns out to be nothing, but I am bored and can't concentrate on the telly, so thought it would at least take some time up.

carol3 · 01/12/2006 02:22

yipee well done, very exciting, big gush? or small trickle

carol3 · 01/12/2006 02:23

Nj will be very

calsworld · 01/12/2006 02:27

oooh Carol, glad there's someone there ..I got up to go to the toilet after a big contraction and as I sat down there was a HUUUGGGE gush...no doubt that it was my waters....DH very excited but also, very able to get back to sleep, I'll need him lots later so would rather he did just that....

carol3 · 01/12/2006 02:34

how can he sleep lol,
I bet you won't sleep now too exciting !

jabberwocky · 01/12/2006 02:37

cw, how exciting!!!

Okay, so is it just me or do you do an internal ewwww every time you get a gush? I can't really explain why I disliked it so, but I did.

jabberwocky · 01/12/2006 02:40

LOL, just remembered about your work colleagues and how lo wouldn't dare be early or late...

calsworld · 01/12/2006 03:07

Jabber - still leaking albeit much slower and still no contractions since the one just prior to them breaking....rang the hospital to see if they needed to know and the said to go in to be checked....but my waters are clear, baby is still fidgeting occasionally and I'm booked for a home birth...any ideas?

Was considering going back to bed but I'm still leaking and not quite sure how much more is to come..

Where is everyone when you need them?

carol3 · 01/12/2006 03:13

Try and get some sleep if you can just put a few thick towles down.
I think it depends on where you live how long they let you go on without contractions, but I think a couple of days.
If your having a home birth anyway just get some rest then maybe if nothings chaged in the morning you could get a midwife out to see if your dilating.
Had my last 2 at home fantastic.

calsworld · 01/12/2006 03:15

Carol - that was my plan - great, I feel validated now! Thick towels it is...

carol3 · 01/12/2006 03:15

sorry cal missed that they want you to go in ! I would be reluctant to imo

MKG · 01/12/2006 03:18

calsworld,

If I were you I would try to sleep, although who can sleep with all the excitement. In the morning if no one will come to see you, and you haven't started to have contractions, stop by the hospital just so they can assess you. They'll probably send you home, but better safe than sorry.

calsworld · 01/12/2006 04:54

well....probably last post for a while....(fingers crossed anyway)...contractions now down to between 2 and three minutes and DH is filling the pool....

Cal

carol3 · 01/12/2006 04:56

fantastic news, good luck

jabberwocky · 01/12/2006 05:47

Good luck, cal!

BaileysMilkshake · 01/12/2006 06:15

Good luck Cal - very

NatalieJane · 01/12/2006 06:28

Cor I go to bed for the night and it all kicks off!!

Cal I am sooooo excited for you!!! I know you've gone but I can't just ignore what's gone on! I can't believe I bloody missed it!! And I am in no way anyone who can get their baby out on time - or get the baby out at all - is wonderful and deserves to!! I will be mentally pushing with you, I won't actually push incase Staceys prediction is right, and I actually don't have a cervix getting in the way at all!! LOL

No news here, went straight to sleep last night, woke up at 12.55 feeling like I had had the best nights sleep of my life, but only managed to sort of doze on and off for the rest of the night so feeling a bit crappy again this morning, but it was nice going to bed at same time as DH for the first time in 7 weeks!!

Have lost a huge huge huge piece of show and have periody type pains but hey, what's new??

I am off back into town this morning, I forgot to get selotape yesterday and DH wants some socks, so I will concentrate more on the walking instead of carrying things and see if that shifts him. But, I am now fairly certain I will be induced at 42 weeks, it seems so inevitable now.

Anyway, good luck Cal, can't wait to hear all about it xxx

hope all goes well today for you nj and trip in town helps. I,m on a night shift again sat, so another nightime labour would be good
Does speed the night up . sorry for saying you'd be ment it in a silly way.

NatalieJane · 01/12/2006 07:16

Don't be silly, I know you didn't mean anything by it

I will try and get the labour booked in for Saturday (that would mean I win the bet as well!! ) but I really am convinced there is going to be no shifting him before 42 weeks, he is just as stubborn as his brother!

How exciting calsworld!! Thinking of you.xx

NatalieJane · 01/12/2006 07:53

She had better do!!! That is the whole of having a home birth isn't it? The less time away from MN the better I say!!!
