Anyone been pregnant but unaware of it until quite far along?

I'm curious because an ambulance man's blog I read was talking about a woman he'd seen in her thirties with two other kids who went into labour and didn't realise it! Can you imagine? I suppose that this woman was in some kind of severe denial because of difficult circumstances or somesuch. I'm interested to know if anyone here has actually been through that experience?

Got to 16 weeks without realizing with DD2 but nothing like this story - how could you not know?!

my sil went to the doctor because she was 'so bloated she couldn't do up her trousers " and was over 20 weeks pregnant - It was her third baby and have to say I'm pretty sceptical that she really had NO idea - but thats what she says...

i was 13 weeks before I did a test with dd2 but your story sounds a little far fetched

A friend of a friend of mine went to hospital for a pelvic x-ray because she was having funny leg pains - and was greeted with the news "erm, you are 7 1/2 months pregnant and - sorry about this - we have just x-rayed your baby". Fortunately baby was fine, but cannot imagine the horror of having c. 6 weeks to prepare for a baby's arrival.

A woman I work with went to the dr who said I think you're pregnant, could be about 16 weeks. Sent her for a scan and discovered that she was 29 weeks pregnant and then the baby arrived 1 week early so she only had 10 weeks of pregnancy that she knew about.

My old child minder didn't know she was pregnant until she was 5 months gone. She already had 4 children too!

i was nearly 5 months gone still taking pill so having periods put the puking down to hangovers and thought i was getting fat!

i know someone who didnt know she was pregnant til she was in labour, she was big to start with so didnt really have a bump she even joined weight watchers thinking she had a weight problem put all the sickness etc down to hangovers, and thought coz she didnt eat healthily she had indigestion

we were all out with her the night before she gave birth and looking back on the photos from that night she didnt look pregnant

she had fallen over drunk that night so thought her back ache was from that - she was in labour! she only took herself off to casualty when she felt a bit uncomfortable! 10 mins after getting there she was pushing

I was almost 5months with ds1 when i found out i was pregnant. I only went to the doctors because i kept getting cramp in my lower leg as was worried as DVT runs in my family. When the dr suggested i could be pg i burst out laughing. Id been bleeding regularly and had no reason to think anything was wrong. Once the shock subsided the worry set in. I had spent the past 5months doing everything i shouldnt have, getting drunk every weekend, going on all the rides at every theme park i went to (which was quite a few)etc. Looking back it explained why after drinking a bottle of sherry one night i felt very very ill and the feeling lasted over a week (havent been able to drink it since) obviously ds1 wasnt impressed!!! Luckily ds1 was born perfectly healthy, on time and weighing 8lb 5oz so i was very lucky but there is no way i would have done those things if id had an inkling i was pg. The funny thing was i hadnt even put on any weight until the week after i found out then it just piled on.

When i was in hospital having my ds (9 weeks old) i got talking to a girl in there, anyway she was telling me that this happened to her 15 year old sister! didn't know she was pg until she was in labour, she had no bump, had periods, no symptoms at all...and was even horse riding 3 times a week every week until she gave birth ...the baby was a girl weighing 6lb 10oz.

My aunt was 5months+ with DN. She was on the pill. She obviously ad some sort of symptoms as she was being treated by Doc for something & found out she was preg when sent for an ultrasound to check kidney function .

My friend went to doc as she kept being sick. Still had af but was 4 months pg.

I also know of a woman who had 5 children. Was having gynie problems so doc sent her for scan at hospital. She was 21 weeks!

a very good friend of my best mate did not know she was PG until 34 weeks ! thought it was menopause -had light periods all the way through and didn't develop a bump - as she wasn;t tuned in for feeling baby move, she didn;t feel it as that...thought it was wind! would not have believed this could happen otherwise...if you can have a phantom pregnancy, surely it can work the other way around and you would not realise you really were pregnant!

XPs friends wife had the doctor out for severe stomach pains during the night and gave birth a few hour later to a full term baby. She had normal periods and had only gained a few pounds which she said was normal for her over winter so had never even considered that she might be pregnant. It was their first child.

Just as an aside, the husband fainted and knocked himself out on the fire place and ended up with stiches. Imagine the chaos in their house that night.

I just find it really hard to believe that women can get to almost full-term without realising they're pregnant. How does the pregnancy not show, even if you continue to have periods? I would have thought it would be pretty unusual, but judging by the number of posts here, not as unusual as you might think!

I know a lady who had her baby at full term in the pub loos - didn't know she was pg!

It amazes me really - I am 14 weeks with my third - my trousers don't fit - I have huge boobs with a nice map design - I feel sick everyday - I have no periods - I sleep for 12 hours a night - even having one symptom would make you wonder! Are people not tuned into their own bodies or in complete denial? And then later - the baby moving - err your whole stomach moving - and the huge bump - which bit would confuse you?

I am sure a mn'er is about to pop up and say she is one of these people and we have offended her - but would love to know all the details if there is one out there!
