Hello everyone,
I have a browny-pinky sticky discharge, I'm guessing that's the show, right? I'm 39+4, and have been having antsy/wanting things done urges and increased vaginal discharge (sorry TMI!) all week. The BHs have been quite strong and frequent recently too.
Luckily, DH doesn't have to go out of town until the 8th November, so the baby is allowed to come when she wants, so 2 questions:
How much longer until I go into "proper" labour?
Is there anything I'm not allowed to do once the plug has gone? Sex? Baths that aren't just plain water? Anything else?
Or is that just once the waters have broken?
Blimey, this could be "it"!

closed eyes pupuce....??!

MrsTittleMouse · 15/10/2006 22:14

Isn't it normal to shut your eyes???
I think I do it so that I can concentrate on breathing slowly and not tensing up.

MrsTittleMouse · 15/10/2006 23:00

Rats! They seem to be "going off" again. Less frequent, and more bearable.
I'll go to bed and see if I can get some rest. I am so glad that I'm seeing the MW tomorrow.

lulumama · 15/10/2006 23:02

oh dear ..........have some rest...tomorrow is a new day....stay positive and relaxed.....it is all happening and it might be a day or two yet,,,but won't be long.....

pupuce · 16/10/2006 09:12

The positive thing is that once you get to contractions which are close together - you won't have long to go....
The annoying thing is that you can have a pre-labour like this for days - most women consider that labour but docs don't... it's incredibly tiring. On the positive it does build up your endorphin levels which is good if you want a natural labour.
You are being very brave.... try to do (if you are still around!) some visualisation... either of a clam and relaxing place or of the baby coming down your body....
Good luck

CarolinahowlingattheMoon · 16/10/2006 09:14

how are things now MrsT?

my labour with ds was like that - it just went on and on, painful enough to stop me sleeping but not much progress dilation-wise.

really sympathise with you.

lulumama · 16/10/2006 18:08

hope things are happening......

but if not, we're all here to keep you going....!!

danceswiththedevil · 17/10/2006 13:02

Any news Mrs T? Are you a mum?!

MrsTittleMouse · 18/10/2006 22:06

Hello everyone!
Yes, I was in labour! The contractions didn't die off, and I was in the hospital almost 5cm dilated by 5am. It wasn't quite the birth that I had planned. I wanted an active natural birth with as little pain relief as possible. That was fine (although much more painful and intense than I could have thought!) until 8cm at about 11.30am, when I had a half dose of pethidine. That took me through until the second stage which started at 2.45pm. I pushed really well for 2 hours, but still no baby, after which the midwife was getting concerned and I was transferred to the consultant-led unit. It turned out that not only had I not managed to turn her from OP when I was pregnant, she hadn't even turned during all that labour and pushing, and so she was never going to turn on her own and I was exhausted. So they decided induced me, I had an epidural (which was wonderful!) and I went into the theatre. We had three goes for me to push her, while they used ventouse to turn her, and she was born on the third. DH was getting really concerned, because I was prep'd for a C-section and it looked really likely at that point, but I didn't care by then.
I actually laughed as I went into theatre, because the first thing on my birth plan was to have a quiet private birth, just me, DH and the midwife, and DH stopped counting all the people there when he reached double figures! They were all really lovely though, everyone at the hospital was fantastic.
We thought that it was all over, but an hour after birth she suddenly went all blue and floppy. We told the midwife, who was in the room writing notes, who picked her up, hit the crash button and ran off with her. It was terrifying to think that after all that, we could lose her, but after a while on oxygen she was fine. And of course, she's perfect.
DH has told me that we're never having another though, because he couldn't go through another day like that. And after all this rambling, I just want to give a big thank you to everyone on MN for all the support when I was in early labour, and all the advice on the boards that helped me deal with everything (including the terrifying perineal care!).

it sounds like a bit of a rough ride - especially your dd needing oxygen, how worrying for you both - but now you can settle down and enjoy your dd.

Hope you've got people to fetch and carry for you and put the kettle on

Thank you for all your lovely messages. DD is called Amy, and is still being really good and feeding and sleeping properly. Keep your fingers crossed that this will last!
Just re-read my little birth story, and remembered that while I was in the consultant-led unit, they were talking about inducing me and reminded me that I wanted as little pain relief as possible and that I ended up shouting "you're not inducing me until you GIVE ME AN EPIDURAL!!!!"
I joked with the anaethetist after that I was supposed to fall in love with him for taking the pain away, and he told us that the husbands are usually the most grateful, having watched their DW go through agony for hours with nothing that they could do about it.
Poor DH, he's still really fazed by the whole thing...
