Hello everyone,
I have a browny-pinky sticky discharge, I'm guessing that's the show, right? I'm 39+4, and have been having antsy/wanting things done urges and increased vaginal discharge (sorry TMI!) all week. The BHs have been quite strong and frequent recently too.
Luckily, DH doesn't have to go out of town until the 8th November, so the baby is allowed to come when she wants, so 2 questions:
How much longer until I go into "proper" labour?
Is there anything I'm not allowed to do once the plug has gone? Sex? Baths that aren't just plain water? Anything else?
Or is that just once the waters have broken?
Blimey, this could be "it"!

How frequent are the 'braxton hicks'?

belgo · 13/10/2006 15:38

I had a show two weeks before I went into labour. I hope you don't have to wait that long!

MrsTittleMouse · 13/10/2006 15:40

Hm, I'm not sure. I should time them. I must have had about 10 today so far. They don't hurt too much, just feel very "tight". Mind you, my Mum didn't feel hers at all and was completely unaware that she was in labour until she went into hospital with bleeding and was already 4cm dilated.
I'll start timing and let you know...

You can have a bath, and if that stops things, then it's not real labour yet.

madmarchscare · 13/10/2006 15:43

Just checking!

I didnt have a show but had two or three days of what were probably BH before being admitted onto the labour ward.

Thing is, it varies so much it could be tomorrow or two weeks. Hope you dont have to wait too long.

megandsoph · 13/10/2006 15:44

I thought hot baths can bring on labour?? or has that ruling changed in the last four years lol

belgo · 13/10/2006 15:45

You're right madmarch hare, this stage of labour can last ages or it can be really quick! That's the thing about childbirth, so unpredictable. Makes it all the more exciting.

megandsoph · 13/10/2006 15:45

MLM hope your wee one is with you soon xx

belgo · 13/10/2006 15:45

Don't take a hot bath, take a warm bath.

LittleJem · 13/10/2006 18:48

With my 2nd I had definite but very bearable contractions from about 10 in the morning every 10 minutes or so until about 6pm, then I had a show, and then the real discomfort started. My waters had to broken by the midwife minutes before she was born. She was born at 1am! Everyone's different though, with my 1st my waters broke before anything else happened at all.

MrsTittleMouse · 13/10/2006 21:32

The BH are staying at about 10 minutes apart, just over a minute each. I had a family commitment tonight, I decided to go, and have come back to find DH drinking G and Ts! So he doesn't think that DC will come tonight!
This weekend wouldn't be a bad time, so please keep your fingers crossed for me.

oooh good luck mrstittlemouse - how exciting for you! il be thinking of you this weekend!

MrsTittleMouse · 14/10/2006 13:50

BHs are getting much more "crampy" with more backache and I'm feeling a bit sick. Still aren't enough to stop me having a conversation in the middle, but I'd certainly rather not.
Could this be it? [hopeful but slightly nervous that this could go on for a couple of days emoticon]

belgo · 14/10/2006 14:07

Let's hope things happen soon - keep us posted!

Spookler1 · 14/10/2006 14:19

good luck!!!

CarolinahowlingattheMoon · 14/10/2006 14:23

oooh, definitely something happening there

may not all happen today though, sorry!

good luck xx

nowanearlyNicemum · 14/10/2006 14:46

not to dampen your spirits but I had a show on Sept 13th and I'm still sitting here straddling my gym ball and waiting for lo to put in an appearance
hope all goes well for you.

CarolinahowlingattheMoon · 14/10/2006 14:54

ah, but see MrsTittleMouse's post of 1.50pm today.

Ds was born about 50 hours from my first 'crampy' contraction, and that was v slow progess indeed.

madmarchscare · 14/10/2006 15:18

Oo, things are moving on a bit then. Fingers crossed for you. Good Luck .

MrsTittleMouse · 15/10/2006 06:58

Contractions have kept me awake since 2.30am and have gone from 20 mins to 14 to 8. So this is probably it.

DH and I have had a couple of days of trying to really get everything sorted out, thank goodness! I must write him the list of names and numbers to call though....
Watch this space!

MrsTittleMouse · 15/10/2006 06:59

Hm, should probably write up the birth plan too eh?

mumandlovingit · 15/10/2006 08:03

hope everything is going ok for you.take this time to make sure you've got everything packed for hospital, everything you need sorted at home so if it does suddenly quicken up you havent got to worry about anything.

i didnt have a show until i was in labour and fully dilated with both mine.waters were broken first time and second the waters broke as i was about to start pushing at 10cm dilated.

ts different for everyone but the more braxton hicks you get now and the more intense, the quicker it will all go once things do speed up.your body is getting itself ready for your little ones arrival

let us know how things progress.i hope things go really well and yu're holding your bundle of joy in your arms anyday

CarolinahowlingattheMoon · 15/10/2006 08:55

if they are painful, I wouldn't call them BHs.

Mrs T, try and rest if you can and eat if you feel hungry - you won't feel like eating when things really get going, but you'll need the energy.

I wouldn't worry about calling everyone immediately - much nicer to have dh with you and the baby instead of outside making calls.

how's it going now?

(I love MN labours, they are soooo exciting )

MrsTittleMouse · 15/10/2006 09:29

They're getting much more bearable at the moment. I don't know if that's because the TENS is kicking in, or because things have "gone off". The contractions were regular and getting closer together until 8am, at which point I decided to go back to bed and have a rest, and stopped timing.
Ooo, just had one, and it's not that bearable!
I think I should start timing again!
Certainly, when I had one half-way up the stairs a couple of hours ago, I had to stop, there was no way to walk through it, which I could to with BHs.
What I really want is a little note from DC that says "hello, I'm your baby, and I'll be arriving today, so don't worry mummy"!

OP posts:
belgo · 15/10/2006 09:31

Ahh - we'd all love that note! But don't you feel excited? I feel excited for you!
